It's cheap, and I can get it on my HP6925 cellphone. So tell me, what is everyone's experience with it?
We used it for free PC to PC, before our ISP blocked it (love a monopoly!) Mrs Dubai still uses it for business calls via VPN (don't ask me....) Sound quality is excellent, ocasionally got some lag but hanging up and dialling again generally fixed it. For the price (free) it was great.
How does it compare to Vonage? I was looking at Vonage b/c they have the WiFi phone that can be taken with you and used at any WiFi location.
I hate to ask... but what exactly is Skype? I keep hearing about it. Some sort of long distance calling?
It's great and sound clarity is fantastic. It's voice over IP. I have it on my laptop and use it for all outgoing international calls. All you need is to download the software and a headset. It's very cheap compared to normal telephone network rates. The Skype rates are maybe 10% of the normal network rates. To some destinations even less.
I have skype on my T-mobile MDA as well, but I don't know anyone that uses Skype....... anyone want to be skype buddies????
ok so downloaded Skype to the Computer today, I started to call people randomly in the search option, people who have set their profile to 'Skype Me' can receive incoming calls from anyone......sssssssoooooooo... Talked to a guy in Turkey who was a pediatrician (sp?) a guy in New Zealand that moved there from South Africa and was about to watch the All Black, he moved there cause of the Crime in South Africa ..... Skype is cool!!!
It is great for tele-conferencing too. Frequently I talk to friends in the UK and Italy at the same time.
I travel all over the world and I use Skype all the time. Network to network connections are free, calling a land line is pennies per minute. You need a headset when calling another phone to avoid the "echo" affect. There has been some talk concerning the security vulnerabilities. The latest version I believe addresses these issues. GO and SKYPE somebody!!
Ok, I have been using it since July 4th and love/hate it. pros: file transfers, easy to use, no hardware needed, listen to voicemail on the computer, multiple numbers to one phone. cons: outgoing british lady on voicemail peeved morgan and jjay bigtime, inconsistent buffering loses some words in a conversation
