I posted a year or so back about this but never ended up going. I now have tickets and am going to the race in October.

I was looking at lodging in either Birmingham, Pell City or even Oxford Alabama. I was leaning towards staying closer and taking an uber vs. staying further away and driving in.

My question - is driving to the race a mess? is take an uber a mess? What should I do? Thanks.

Can you count on an Uber? To pick you up after the race? Have you looked at pricing?
How close can it get? For both trips?
Perhaps latch on with others at your motel and ride with them? For a fee, of course.
I would also think there are shuttles - call each motel and ask - then book the motel.

I have been there twice, but I was part of a race team, 30+ years ago.

thanks for the input. I looked into it and there's really no uber so thanks for the heads up. basically just need to fight traffic on the way out. the way in should be easy as most people get there days before!

It was awesome. The weather was perfect and the race was great. The crowd was respectful too. Everyone was there to watch the race and had a ton of respect for the drivers. Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't wild or crazy or anything. We stayed in Anniston which is super small and has one bar, the Dark Horse, which is a pretty cool place. So yeah, quite the experience.

    Was traffic a worry?

I was there twice, once in 89, and once in 90, a friend raced in the ARCA races.

No. I thought it was going to be a nightmare. We got there with little time to spare. Everyone was already there so just parked in the grass caught a shuttle and we made it in in time for the fly over, anthem, prayer, etc. On the way out we walked back to the car but got lost so by the time we got to the car traffic had died down plus we were going east and most were going west so we were fine.

Late to the thread… we went this April. Stayed in Homewood outside Bham. Took the Rally shuttle bus for $55. Picked us up at a rendezvous point 2 blocks away and ferried right to the concessions and grandstand entry. The bus leaves 45 minutes after the race; we had plenty of time. Easy peasy.

Look for the city and event, then “rally” location closest to you for pick up.

It's even more fun when you can drive on the track! This was about a decade ago, during a Red Cross fundraiser after a tornado had devastated Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. Like driving on the inside of a giant salad bowl!
