I have a 2 car garage and a very narrow, long driveway. Was considering possibly building a tandem garage so I can have more room for my cars. Anyone have a tandem garage, and if so, any pictures?

I assume you mean two bays oriented nose to tail, but with only one door?

No, I don't have one, but when I was growing up, my friend's father had a garage oriented like that. He used the "inner" bay for his project car. The garage was long enough to have plenty of space for tools and a full workbench at the very end. It worked great for him -- he could leave work in process without it being in anyone's way, and without any risk of it being disturbed.

The disadvantage, of course, is that you have to move the outer car to pull out the inner car. But it's not much of a disadvantage, IMHO, for a car that's not a daily driver. I have to do more than that now with my Fcar parked on a lift, and it's no big deal.

We have one. Our home originally was built way back in 1999 with a regular four car garage. Around 2004 I added some living space and a 1 car garage that had A/C. Neither garage could accommodate our boat on a trailer, so then to mitigate some road noise and get our boat indoors I added a large garage that has two 18x8 doors. One door has a depth of around 32 feet (room for any one large car or two small cars), and the other is about 36 feet deep. It is great! You can put a lift in and still have room to park behind it with another vehicle. The only downside is if you use all the parking you will shuffle cars to get some of them out, but it is not a big deal.
Any questions, feel free to ask. Some pics of the tandem garage attached...

Damn, these garage photo threads really make me jealous. :)

 .............. far better than my measly unfinished two car garage ............... .................. I have been considering some form of industrial tile instead of paint .......... will that flooring you have hold up to floor jacks/jack stands?

    +1 .........

Great looking garage. I would try to do something similar to yours but on a smaller scale.

The floor tiles are definitely a great thing IMHO. I got the cheap ones from www.floorjunkies.com for $1.79 per foot. I think the total for our garage was around $3200. It took a long time to figure out the pattern so that I was using nearly a full box of each color, but I really like it. The install took about 9 hours with one of my daughters helping me. No problems with the tile, but I keep a handful of small pieces of plywood to put under trailer tongue tires, floor jacks, or jackstands to prevent the possibility of getting a dent in the tile. The back of the tile is hollowed out and the tile is supported by little tabs. This allows water to run out of the garage under the tiles. Putting a lift on the tiles has not caused any problems. The tile is super easy to keep clean, a bi-weekly hose down, and a pressure wash about every 6 months keeps it near perfect. It is really comfortable to walk on (no fatigue from the hard concrete surface), and also has the benefit of being able to find parts easily when you drop a washer or something similar.
The only big downside is that they are prone to bow up when exposed to the sun and the tiles expand. As long as you aren't leaving the garage open with the floor in the sun for more than a few minutes this will not be apparent. If you are working in the garage with first few rows of tile in the sun you will get a bubble that goes away about 5 minutes after you shut the garage door. You can get some industrial type double sided tape to hold the edges down to prevent this, but I never bothered with that step.

That's what I am referring to, a 3 car tandem garage. Wondering how long the garage is in order to accomodate this. I am trying to save some back yard space.
    Thanks.

    Boo!!!
And I like 40 feet of depth if you can get it, but 36 will do for smaller cars.
A good rule of thumb is to take the toal of the two vehicles to be parked and add about 8 feet. This allows 2-3 feet between each vehicle and the wall or garage door.

What are you talking about, the Lancia or the Delorean. I'm confused, I don't see a Fiero based 348. Did I miss something?

Was going to ask if it was a Lancia... red one on right. Looks from the rear like a bad 348 clone.

Thanks for clairfying. The red one is a Lancia. I couldn't figure out if there was a picture I couldn't view or something.

I too have a tandem but here's an idea I used on a client design project. We bored (2) holes in the ground in front of his prized car (an old speedster), placed pipe sleeves in the ground, and this provided for the installation of removeable bollards. This served 2 purposes. (1) So neither he or his wifee would ever hit the car and (2) theft deterant. The bollards have a padlock receiver countersunk at the base.

    (the more you know...) :)

I still have a soft spot for the Delorean always liked them. Is it true about the rumor that they are going into production again? in Arizona I think. There were tonnes of spare parts kicking around from the original plant in Ireland,

Oh God you have a Lancia Beta Scorpion and it seems to be driveable. Come, the sides are totally rusted out, right? :p
