    Been planning this for quite a while but it is all pretty much set now - I am driving in the 100th Anniversary of the Targa Florio in Sicily. The event officially starts May 31 - my car (see pix) arrives in Palermo on the ferry from Genoa the evening of the 30th. Nancy-Jean and I are flying to Nice, arriving May 20, and driving a Hertzmobile the full length of Italy to arrive in Palermo May 29, hook up with Napolis, bobafett, and a few others to run the event from May 31 through June 4. Then we have until June 10 to get back to Nice and return home.

    I am driving a 1952 Ermini 1100 - this car came 4th in the 1952 running so has been accepted as a prior competitor. My new friend Pietro Tenconi has a stable of historic vehicles available for hire out of Milan that are eligible for the various historic events in Europe - all the big ones like the Mille Miglia, Historic Rally of Monte Carlo, etc. www.classiccarcharter.com It costs what it costs, but is less than shipping my 348 over and I am in it for real. We are very much looking forward to running with the likes of Clay Regazzoni, Vic Elford, Nino Vaccarella, and other luminaries from the history of motorsport. I have a new camera and about 3,000 photos worth of memory to take - gonna get Mrs. K a video camera as well so will be sharing mucho on our return.

    Needless to say, we're starting to get excited about the whole thing - I got the plane tickets to Nice a couple of days ago and am now in the process of planning the road trip through Italy.

    Anyone going to be in Italy between May 20 and June 10 let me know...

    I'm excited for you and your wife...what a trip it's going to be!!! :) Yes, make good use of your camera and also grab lots of video. It sounds like you'll be in good company over there too. Congrats and good luck!

    Jeez when I first started reading this I thought you were making it up :) Sounds like the car adventure of a life time. Brush up on your Italian. How do you say, "Damn F'n car"?

    I have been working on my Italian - I now use BOTH hands when speaking to other drivers...

    We have support for myself and one other car from Pietro's shop plus some other backup. Since we're actually organized and paying the extra I'm sure the car will be perfect...!

    Kevin your killing me...no really good for you & your wife.

    When I was at the Mille Miglia last year I said to my self I want to do this soon!

    The only thing that caught my eye is you must feel good about playing it close...you get your car the day/ night before. I would be nevous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs....give yourself at least 1 day for a delay in shipping or last min repair??????

    Have a great time, this will be a good one!

    Car is being delivered (along with another of their cars for a mate of mine) by one of Classic Car Charter's people on the regular ferry service from Genoa which is about two hours from Milan, and we will have support along the way from a person familiar with the cars. Nancy-Jean and I will go through Milan the week before and will stop by and see Pietro and his shop, etc. and if the car is there I'll see if I can tool around the block in it. The CCC people are old hands at these events so I am not too worried about it - even if it all goes horribly wrong we will still have our Hertzmobile in Palermo so we can follow along and do all of the eating and drinking, etc. plus get some passenger seat time with others.

    It would have been nice to have a bit of time ahead of the event with the car but the logistics turned in to a nightmare and this way is so much easier for us.

    What an awesome opportunity. I'm sure it will be an incredible experience for the two of you. I am so jealous! Hmmm, maybe I need to take a trip and catch of with la mia familia. :)

    I might be doing the Targa too. We got a few cars that qualify. One of them actually won its class in the 1971 Targa Florio. My dad is from Collesano, one of the towns it goes through so it would be fun to race infront of family. I'll keep you posted...

    Hi Kevin,
    I'll take part with my 1955 500 Mondial with my friend Guy Fawe (same team as we drove the 2002 Mille Miglia). We'll take the boat from Genova to Palermo arriving May 30. It will be a splendid adventure. If you want to buy a DVD from previous Targa's you can find them on www.avidec.be

    Jan/Kevin,

    I'm doing this event with my cousin Remo. I think we'll be some of the younger entrants.

    I'll be bringing my Dino photos attached.

    I have my car being transported down from UK to Portofino where i am staying the night before the ferry from Genoa to Palermo. If your staying nearby, let us know.

    Can't wait to meet you all. Should be a week to remember!

    Very nice Dino, will be perfect to drive in the Targa. I think we'll leave Antwerp on Sunday afternoon, stay somewhere in France and arrive on Monday evening to take the ferry from Genoa. See you there

    Albert,

    I wasn't aware that a Dino could be run in the Targa. What exactly are the requirements? I have a Dino and would love to drive the Targa someday.

    My Dino was first registered in 1971.
