Who'd want to be organising a tarmac rally in this day and age? Most residents hate it and governments are jumpy as hell on the road toll and anything that reminds them of it. Entrants want amenities, so you can't stick the event too far out of town. It would be a tough way to make a quid, I reckon. I bet Silverstone makes more money out of it's Euro Travel business than it does out of CA - and for a lot less grief.
Targa Tassie seems to be doing well though, even the residents seem to enjoy the experience although you will always find some you can make a media story about
Some residents like it - some don't. http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/society-and-culture/hoons-rule-for-tasmanias-economy-20100208-nmpe.html
Targa High Country was established because the Vic Government was asked to go and look at Targa Wrest Point. They were impressed to the degree that they wanted an event in Vic. The reasoning behind the location was due to the bushfires last year and an event would promote people returning to the area. Also the cost for many Vics to go to Tas is expensive and as such the event will attract many local drivers/cars. To coincide (in timing) with CA is tactfully good because the cost differential between CA and THC is so great that drivers/cars would be mad not to do a new (ish) event rather than the same 120km run to a winery for lunch!
so the guy in that article is pissed off because he lost the opportunity to make some money by renting his house for a wedding that conflicted with TT we have some cretins here on the GC biatching about the Indy too, still happens , always will
