Normally drive my 328GTS without the top on, but with cooler Colorado weather put the targa top on today. Unfortunately it rattles a lot. The noise comes from the back so I assume it has something to do with the latches. Checking they seem tight, so not sure what I can do to get rid of the noise.

Shim the latches with a business card or something similar and see if it disappears

Might it be an issue with dried out or shrunken mouldings, noting that your latches are tight, e.g, trying shims as Tommy suggests. Maybe a little glycerin to dress the mouldings? I can't say that I notice the top rattling and I drive with the top on more often than not (OK, maybe I really want a GTB as Claude suggests). Jon

I think that short of lubricating the seals, rattles and squeeks are part of having the top in place. The body flex is such that the mating parts just move relative to each other. There are probably some non-petroleum based lubes that could help reduce the noise. (NO .. not KY Gel). :)

My 328 was pretty quiet with the top in place. I suspect it's the condition of the rubber.

maybe the problem are the rubber seals gone, but some noise with rattles and squeaks is a standard for a GTS.

The GTB is definitely a better car, when the GTS has the top on

My Saratoga rattles like nothing you can imagine. And the irony is you don't appreciate the benefit unless it is left in.

You lube the seal and the squeak will go away.

I lube the contact points of the latches and front and rear seals as well as the alignment pins with clear silicon grease and wipe the excess with a rag. If done at annual services it keeps most of the noise away.

I had the same problem when I bought my 1985 308 QV. Put rubber / foam washers over the two front pins, someting that will compress abou 1/8 of an inch (3.0mm) and a soft plastic tube over the jegs of the Rear Latches. All rattles gone!!!

Sorry! "Legs" of the Rear Latches. Jegs may be construed to be something else...

I got some lube for my S2000 that was specifically for conditioning the top seals from Honda. Unfortunately l am sitting on a plane in Atlanta heading for Salt Lake City so I can't get the specifics. I use it on my 328 and have no noise from the seals only some rattling at the latch. Have what I need to fix the problem but just need the time. That being said I think I've had the top on 3 times in the last 4 years.
