I'm on a German Shepherd forum. Mostly for the training tips. Someone there started a show me your tattoo's thread. I was shocked at the number of people who have them. It is your choice to get them or not. I personally hate them. I'm a snob. Just curious how many here have them.

I'm old school. My grandma would have tanned my hide if I came home with a tat. And, now, the wife would not approve. Done right though, I think they look fine. Friend has a single rose on his shoulder with his mom's date of birth and death...T

    Don't have any. Yet.

I'm a fan of well done tattoo's. HATE the generic ''picked from the book'' tattoo's.

I find that a lot of younger people have an ''excuse'' for their tattoo, by which I mean they HAVE to tell everyone what their tattoo means. Sure, some do have meaning and all that...but **** me, for every 3''x3'' tattoo they've got some bull**** story behind it. If you don't have a meaningful story, don't invent one, just say you've got it because it looks cool.

Old tattoos look old, i have a couple older ones that are terrible, especially when you age...the younger generation with all that ink is going to look terrible in 30 years..there is a booming business in removal....
This pic looks like a newer or touched up Tat...

I'm in the camp that says they look bad at any age. Believe its a fad that many in 5 to 10 years will get them removed.

Not a tat guy myself at all.

One of my kids has a couple very small ones. The rest do not.

I offered to pay for my son's tattoo as long as it said, "This tattoo cost me $1,000,000" as I indicated to him that if he got one (he was 16 at the time) I'd write him out of the will. :D

It worked, he woke up, changed his mind and never looked back. He now thinks tattoos are a waste of skin.

To each their own. I have them, loved them since I am a kid (my parents have them). I'm 46 and will get more...I enjoy the process of getting them and I love the way they look (both men and women).

If you enjoy the pain, why not just have a weekly trip to the S&M dungeon, have them poke at you for a few hours with needles, then go home?

    Or better yet, maybe acupuncture??

I agree, to each to his own, but I've just never understood the tattoo thing.

MY one kid who has a couple, as I said before, has a tattoo of the nickname her dad gave her. (I raised her, BTW, not him) and she has always indicated she didn't really like him very much, yet, there it is, a tat with the nickname he gave her as a kid, that no one calls her to this day. (not that I'm at all bitter about it, but it bugs her mom.)

    Go figure.

S&M isn't my thing, but I did fight / compete in Jiu Jitsu for a few years and that was awesome. I'd literally have black and blue around my bicep - like a half sleeve tattoo!

I have quite a few visible scars on my face (and body), and I remember being a kid asking the doctor if my stitches would leave scars, and when he said "yes", I think he was shocked that I returned his "yes" with a "YESSSSS!!!!!". To this day, I love the scars on my face.

I'm not into self-injury like cutting. I do like imperfection, though (Jewel's eye teeth, Cara Delevingne's eye brows, my gap-toothed smile) - I find beauty in a wide spectrum of things / people that others don't. I like eyebrow and nose piercings on women, tattoos, while at the same time I appreciate a fit person with none of that...it's just me.

Tattoos fit right in with that - it's a mark of something you've done, somewhere you've been. I rarely show mine off, but just to look at it, it makes me happy. Same with the polio vaccination scar on my arm, or any of the scars from surgery or accidents I've had as a kid.

Hard to explain - some that have tats know what I speak of.

Agree 100%. Nothing wrong with them, just not for me. It's too permanent if you ask me. On guys I could care less what they do, on girls I absolutely hate it. It reminds me of someone putting stickers on a Ferrari...it's just not necessary.

    I don't think so.

That "old" guy is hipster model Alessandro Manfredini. He's 47.

The colorful tattoo in that photo is practically new, seeing as he had no tattoos on his forearms in mid-2013.

Fair play. But touching up a tattoo can make it look close to new. Same effect, then.

I have about 40 hrs of work. 20 of that was done in the traditional manner ( without a machine) I'll get more. My wife probably has 10hrs of work. I honestly don't care what people think never have never will. I got them for me. People that are opposed to tattoos will never get it and thats cool. I won't judge someone for not having ink, that would be ignorant of me. To each their own. Thats what makes the world great. When I'm old and my ink is all faded and saggy I'll look at them and think " hell yeah that was awesome", because each and everyone has a meaning to me. They won't look bad, to me, they'll bring back great memories.

Going to have to disagree with both assessments. I have spent most of my working life in a corporate setting so I refrained from neck tattoo's and full sleeves. I have two tattoo's and both are on my shoulders, one is a American Bald Eagle because I was born on the 4th of July and the other is a tribal design. I do not regret getting them nor would I entertain the idea of having them removed. I had a friend who's family owned a tattoo parlor so they did not cost me anything. When my mom saw them about 20yrs ago she almost had a stroke and then a second stroke when my older brother showed her his tattoo and I did not even know he had one.

    My body, my choice.
