Hello fellow Dino owners - I thought I would see if anyone had any thoughts on this. I am finishing restoration on a 62 Abarth 1000 GT that was a team car at Sebring in 1962 as car #5. It had only 2000 miles on it when I purchased it and was put away in 1965 after the engine failed. It had a string around the steering wheel with a riveted aluminum tag stamped with a star and letters. Is this a tax related stamp from Italy? Would a Dino (US or Euro car) had something like this when brand new? Has anybody reproduced these? A few pictures.

    Thanks,
    Rob

Given it's competition history, I would suggest it's a scrutineering tag.

    Very nice car Rob.
I think it’s for the keys when the car is shipped?
I saw a similar string with lead crimp on an unopened Dino toolkit.

Owner of *0908* L-Series has a similar tag on his steering column. I think he told me it was a tax tag.
