    I was speaking to my little brother today, he was working as a pizza delivery driver for a while but the dumb ass didnt keep his petrol reciepts he has however been paying for it all on card and his bank statement shows all of the info, would the statement be sufficent for him to claim?? he has just left home for Uni so every dollar counts

    Given the situation, i think that if he has the receipts or not would not matter one bit.

    If his receipts are over about 2500, then you might want to use the bank statements. Even then, they are not considered documents that can be substantciated by the ATO, so if he does get audited, they mean precisely jack ****.

    He should make a claim for his vehicle using the cents per KM method. Depending on his displacement on his car engine, he can claim upto 5000km being work related. I will give the rates for the different cars below:

    <1.6L 51c
    >1.6L <2.6L 61C
    >2.6L 62C


    So for instance he was driving a 4L car. Claiming 5000KM. Then calculation would be 5000 x .62 = 3100 tax deduction.


    All you really need for this is a spare "Log Book' which you can buy from any Newsagent, so go buy one of them.

    ok thanks guys ill pass it on, when he runs out of money it will be my door he is knocking on so the more in his pocket the better for me :)


    also i doubt he kept any record of milage, should he just guesstimate?

    Just claim ~5000km. But buy a blank log book just in case.
