Last year I started seriously playing again after a 12-year hiatus. I recently bought a vintage (1990) Taylor 910 dreadnought acoustic and have been extremely pleased with it. It is a beautiful instrument and sounds wonderfully full-bodied, warm and perfectly balanced in most any picking style. I have medium Elixir Polyweb strings on it now but was wondering if anyone else has found a favorite string brand for this type of guitar. For example, I have tried Martins but didn't like them much on this guitar.

    TIA,
    Shan

I wish I could help..as I'm an electric man myself(I like loud nosie) But I do have an accoustic. I have put the Martian strings on mine and also and I do like the sound. D'arzzo also make strings for accoustic I believe but I have never used them. I think Taylor has their own line of strings do they not?? I could be wrong. I have had good luck, and do like Erine Ball, Music Man strings also. Peavy makes some good strings, but they seem to snap easy.

Bump up Elixirs to Heavy or, for uncoated - give D'Addario 12-56 (lightest choice I'd use) a whirl. The coated Elixirs will last longer, though any guitar with decent setup will thank you for supplying heavier gauge & reward you with juicier tone.

i use DR strings, on everything i have now, LES PAULS included. they are hand made in the USA. on my 12 string acoustic is always used fender vintage strings. if you have been out of playing for some time a lighter gauge string will help you build strength and dexterity in your fingers faster. be sure to check and adjust the action height on the guitar if its not been played for some time.
