Who did a tcu upgrade on their 360? What kind? Cost? Did you feel big improvement/difference?
This is of interest to me! I recently purchased Ken's @future328driver beautiful 360. I've got records showing Boardwalk Ferrari installing "CS TCU" --- Purchased from FerrParts as Item #196986 "F1 Gearbox ECU/Stradale". There is another device in the cabin called "Smart eMT F1 Relay ECU." I've owned several F1 cars, in order of F1 performance... I've got Scud as far and away #1 > 2009 Maz GT (far and away #2) > 575m...I'm thinking the 360 is in between the Maz and the 575m...but I haven't had enough time with it to be sure. If anyone has experience with a similar setup on a 360 (CS TCU with the Smart F1 relay), I'd be interested to hear your thoughts? @clean512 Did you have the CS TCU prior to the Trev tune? I am considering converting the 360 to manual with Trev tune..
Upgraded mine from a MY2001 to MY2004 TCU. As the mechanic at the dealer described it to me, best bang for the dollar on performance. He was right. Although after driving another 360 with the CS TCU, I probably would have gone with that in hindsight. Either way, noticeable improvement in performance, driving experience and the smile on my face.
Just yesterday actually I ordered my Scud Ing Smart F1 pump relay. There are a bunch of other threads about it, but my understanding is that the most value that’s providing g is protecting against relay failure that burns out your pump and costs $$$$. Whatever slight reduction in latency it provides probably isn’t noticeable in the driving experience. I’m also keenly interested in upgrading my TCU hardware/software at some point, so am also interested to see what people have done. Is putting a 360trev tune on a non-CS TCU an option anyone has done?
Wasn't there some issue with these guys where some dude had his car there for 8 months or so and they were rude to him? Or I could be mistaken..... What differences did you notices and cost if you don't mind sharing. Thnx!!!!
Many rumors or stories or whatever. I really don't keep up with that. I have had trev360 tune now over 2 years and its been a new car. The detail and understanding what he does is like no other. It just works and works better. Some say why mess with a ferrari. Everything can be defined or approved no matter what it is. I would fully recommend it.
@dhalperin13 glad you are enjoying the car. The CS TCU made a huge difference in my car. Prior to the upgrade, the shifts here a bit sloppy and the rev matching on the downshifts was almost non-existant. After the upgrade, much more aggressive and positive upshifts and the downshifts were great. Not quite to the level of the Scud but still great for the 360. The Scud Ing relay came later and was really intended to protect against a relay failure that would lead to a pump failure. I had that happen once after a track day and did not want to go through it again. 360s are known for having under-Amp'd F1 pump relays, so I actually got into the habit of having the stock relay replaced with each annual service before I added the Scud Ing relay. It was cheap insurance against a relay failure. There is an upgrade that you can do to the mechanical relay, but as I recall it requires an upgrade to the fuse panel since the upgraded mechanical relay has an additional prong compared to the stock relay.
Sweet, where can you get this done and how log does it take/cost? Sound like worth it!! I'm in Los Angeles.
Sweet, thnx, so it sounds like I should do the Scud upgrade one? Where can you get this done and how log does it take/cost? Sound like worth it!! I'm in Los Angeles.
For the Scud Ing relay, visit their website. You’ll also need to remove the carpet panel and inspect the relay pin configuration (4 or 5 pins. Don’t forget to turn off your battery before unplugging it to look at) to determine exactly what you need. There are instructions on the website. Mine arrives tomorrow! Took about a week from when I placed the order.
Just a quick warning about 360 TCU upgrades on a non CS base model 360... The CS TCU will help it shift faster no doubt but the car won't really work as intended or be happy in this configuration as the torque shift points are all out of whack / alignment, especially in "Normal" mode, less pronounced in Sport but event then your wearing out precious clutch quicker than it should if using proper calibration. If you want to do it properly you need fixed firmware. Either recalibrated stock Modena firmware (if your not interested in additional performance) or upgrade to CS firmware, or my own years in the making stuff. Any one of these is possible but non calibrated (just PIS reset) isn't really ideal at all and not at all recommended!
I have a spare genuine Challenge Stradale TCU (actual CS part, not a re-program) lying around since I converted my car to manual using an EAG kit. Anyone have idea of market value of that part?
Interesting. Thanks Trev. PM sent. I am weighing a conversion to a manual as well. My 575 has been with EAG for some time now…so I’m not extremely excited to part ways with the 360 at the moment… @360trev Outside of the clutch wear, is it possible for the CS TCU to cause any other mechanical damage if the ECU is not properly calibrated?
Re. the CS TCU issues running in standard Modena/Spider. I lived with it for 4 years and 95% of the time you never noticed an issue. Over 3,000km my clutch wore only 3%. The issue showed up under very specific conditions, with very low throttle changing down gears to overtake for example, if you floored the gas too quickly the clutch would slip for about 1 second. Awareness of the issue meant I just changed down until I felt the clutch bite then gave it some gas. No real problems so long as you learn to feel the car.
Agreed it sort of works but why live with all the work around compromises when the solution is well known to cure them all? I bet you never ran the car in Normal mode during this time much, normal is much worse of a mismstch... Only race kinda works. And even then it depends on how you drive it. It's really incompatible to be fair. The calibration is better but absolutely not perfect and it's much more glitchy and nothing like how it should work if calibration is right . Try it as designed with both ECU and TCU and you would never go back. It's like running a very old browser against a modern website, it will sort of work but it's not really designed for that old version so there will be glitches...
I’m working with Sam and @360trev to reflash/tune the ECU over the weekend…I’ll report back when complete!
Very cool, yes please, do tell how it goes! Are you doing TCU as well? I was told the "best" thing to do is TCU AND ECU and not just ECU. Thnx.
Yes, my car already had the Challenge Stradale TCU and upgraded relay. I’m excited to see the difference!
