ECU and TCU flash upgrade will this cause any issue passing emissions test in CA directed toward ECU but would like to do both at same time?
I have CS TCU on my 1999, definitely big difference but PIS adjustment was the biggest night/day difference for me I used a scan tool and did about 30 minutes of fine tuning the PIS and could not be happier
@chnco I’ve got an Autel scanner, not sure if it will work but wondering if you can point me in the right direction for the procedure to fine tune the PIS? Thanks!
I have called an audible due to my diminished DIY skills… I was able to remove the side covers from the engine bay exposing the ECUs. I thought that this should be easy enough. I found I was missing some hardware and the very last hex bolt that I was removing on the passenger side was stripped. I’m lucky that I was able to get it removed! I’ve searched unsuccessfully for the part numbers of this hardware … so far I have come up empty. There is an FChat thread on a 430 with some hardware specs…The google has presented an option for titanium replacements for $65…but the company Senssi doesn’t seem to be mentioned on this forum which make me cautious to proceed down that path. Why I’m calling an audible: The ECUs have four stainless steel 8mm nuts with spring washers securing them. I am not confident that I can remove these without losing the hardware in the engine bay. So plan B! @360trev associate Sam introduced me to a shop very close to me that can help. Looks like the 25th of April I’ll be able to report back.
For the 360 3ngine bay panel at least, I think these are part numbers for the screws (168133) and washers (12647678). Image Unavailable, Please Login
launch x431 is what I used. I would drive the car around for a while to ensure clutch is warm, decrease PIS in slow increments until car starts creeping and then increasing slightly to stop creeping takes some time
Ahh fantastic, so have you had time yet to drive it much? Would love your driving verdict before and after. I couldn't go back now it's that much more responsive.. [emoji6]
I haven't had a chance to drive it much yet...I'm having an issue with an incompetent DMV and thus no tags yet. Hoping to sort it out this coming week. Will be installing a set of Tubi Style headers as my OEMs appeared to be failing. Interested to see the difference a set of high flow cats makes in the setup.
Quick update. I am officially amazed at the transformation of the driving experience. My OEM headers had cracked on the drivers side, so I replaced them with Tubi style shielded headers and free flowing cats. Trev’s tune was optimized for the setup, we set the PIS point to Trev’s spec…driving this car is now an event (dare I say) on par with the Scud. Not even exaggerating. OMG!
That's awesome! His tune is sick! I'm having a hard time setting the PIS on my car. if I make it too low, it moves forward in 1st without gas. A hair higher, and my God that thing slips like crazy when trying to accelerate fast from a stop. Thoughts? Maybe my clutch is old. Either way, going to continue playing with it and more importantly, putting in a new clutch and flywheel this summer.
Anyone figure this out? I know modern smog checks tap into the ECU for CALID and other info now, so one of my old cars that was reflashed would no longer pass. I'd hate to run into another one of those situations. On the other hand.... I don't want the car to drive worse with an "upgraded" TCU.
The vast majority of 360's aren't impacted, only a very few extremely late registered in MY05 360's have CALID's. Most don't so no worries on most 360's ever produced about any of this.
Perfect! Can't wait. That makes sense, as MY 2006 is when we started having issues with the smog shops.
I just did the CS TCU upgrade on my 01 360 and it’s a new car. To be fair, it doesn’t cure all ailments with the F1 — it’s still old tech, but the improvement is tenfold. The shifting is much smoother and faster, and the system seems much smarter and more responsive. It was a great upgrade Thanks to Goodkind Designs in Leander, TX for the upgrade. It’s such a blast to drive.
Interesting. I also had my ECU tuned to match the CS TCU and I didn't really notice that much difference. I only upgraded so I could monitor the clutch/trans/parameters with my phone app. I didn't really expect much more performance. My tuner did make some adjustment to the car recently which DID make quite a difference. The car is so much more... "snappy" (?) now. Like it woke up a bit LOL.
That’s how mine feels (awake), but I think it is quite dramatic considering how sluggish the transmission felt on the old software. Two places I notice the biggest difference, when I am warming up the engine and trying to keep the revs low, I shift much earlier than I would with a warm car, and the hop from first to second is twice as quick, and I don’t feel such a big lurch when the clutch engages. The other times are when I’m really getting on the power and going up through the gears. The upgrade makes me feel like the car is still with me, before it used to take so long to complete the shift and you could feel the car not pulling for a half a second. I bet some tunes can make these cars insane, but for me, I like keeping things mostly original. I like imagining myself in 2001 driving this car when it was brand new, and trying to experience what Ferrari thought was a good/good enough car for the time.
I'm my situation, I didn't notice much different after the transmission issues upgraded. Once the engine ECUs were updated to work with the TCU update, that's when I noticed the difference. Throttle responses is a lot snappier. The throttle bodies mapping has been changed a bit. Judging by the way the car drives at part throttle, such as in parking lots, while parking, and while driving, it feels like the throttle bodies are mapped more in relation to the pedal. Maybe not 1:1, but definitely increased. Also, not sure how, but they seem to open faster a full throttle, between shifts. They even make a different sound now.
