I was watching and listening to the commentary this morning and it made me wonder. Why is it any different to issue team orders that one teammate drive slow - to hold up the other traffic - than to issue team orders for a (safe) pass between drivers.

Seems to me that the former is WORSE - as it F's up EVERYONE ELSE'S race, while the orders between drivers only flips their positions.

In BOTH cases, the teammate at the back is being to ld to hold off to the advantage of their teammate.

    Indeed.

Just another example of the complete *absurdity* of the "no team orders" rule.....

    Cheers,

    The questions become:

    - Was Jenson told (at any time) to hold up the field? Is it an agreement between the drivers that whoever is behind hold up the others? Or was JB simply slower?
    - If he was (intentionally?) holding up the field, does it affect the outcome of the race?

Dave Viz summed it up in his inimitable fashion a while back in a post I can't find - Something about determining impossible to determine scenarios.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

If you have a team you have team orders.
Denying that is like trying to ignore gravity.
Its sustainable for only the briefest of moments ;)

Ian there is NO way on gods earth Jenson was playing a holding role, his car was damaged.

What I would like to know is where Massa would be in the points now compared to Alonso, had the switch not taken place........just interested thats all...:)

Footnote: And even if JB's car was not damaged, keeping up with Hamilton is not quite as easy as one thinks.

    Interested?
Trouble maker is more like it.
But that's why we all love you so much ;)

BTW Jensen was doing a holding action because his car was slowed by damage. A fine distinction but a real one.

I never meant to imply that he was - Sorry if I gave that impression. My only angle was as similar behavior (and it does happen, we've all seen it) relates to team orders - Should these guys then lose points?

:) It's another unanswerable question - I get where you're going given this past W/E, but while the #'s guys have their calculators at the ready, the only legitimate answer is "we'll never know...."

I don't dislike the guy ("hate" the team!), and he certainly *is* quick when things are going his way... [My kids were born in Woking btw....]

    Cheers,
    Ian

Personally, I like the team order ban, I want to see a race to the finish even if between teammates.

Then there's the other side - first and foremost I'm a Ferrari fan. As long as they get the WCC, I don't care who comes first...

Now I know how Vettel feels when Webber is in his head :)

At least Flavio had the decency to get Jr to put on a show in Singapore. If Ferrari would have done it they would have just parked the car at the slowest corner on the circuit. :D

we just wish them good luck and hope for the best ..... worked for the America's Cup many moons ago ;)

Seriously, a TEAM works together to achieve an objective, the WCC or the WDC, hopefully both.

In F1 there are 2 teams inside a team but when it comes time to say one of the team members isn't going to make the WDC but the points from both members help the WCC then what is wrong with FA taking the win from FM ?

The bookies and a few English newspapers/websites are the only ones getting their knickers in a twist, this has happened for many decades in this sport, the sheep who have never followed F1 are being led around by their nose

There is no team in the WDC.

The halfway point in the season is too early to give up on one of the drivers.

Knowing that Alonso is the best driver in the team why not gift him the first race of the season if Massa is leading it?

Running a WDC and a WCC in the same series is another example of how the FIA sets up unreconcilable conflicts within the rules.
