Interesting car! Even it is not a Michelotto built GT it has good provenance imho.
An iconic F car, the F40.

Even though it was a private conversion, #80780 ran more races with Team Taisan in the Japan GT championship in 94/95 than their Michelotto car #80742 (ex-Italian GT CSAI). For a while it ran alongside their Porsche 962C.

Let's hope that it find a good home where it will preserve its history rather than be re-named an F40LM after a "look alike" conversion as has happened to some other ex-racing F40s from that period.

I agree about the Taisan car's history and am intrigued to see the auction result but I think you're being very unfair about the car (and home) I assume you're talking about; the period modifications ultimately did not translate into a successful race history and the car was in a very sad state. I don't see there was much, if any, onus on the new owner to preserve it and the rebuild has been meticulously chronicled openly and in good faith. Personally I'm thankful that any of it still exists and more so that it is still being enjoyed on track.

If your refer to #84326 which is discussed in another thread I agree, and I think the work on that looks very nice. Here, I was actually thinking about Team Taisan's sister car #80742 which had a successful career in the Italian GT (CSAI) and then to Japan. It had been restored back to CSAI spec a while back, and this year apparently has been modified with a front LM clam, wing etc. That does seem a shame, particularly as it is a Michelotto F40GT. However, at the end of the day, the owners can do what they want their car, as is their right.

FWIW, I think your own F40 build is very cool, as I posted on your thread. Congrats.

I was assuming you meant 84326 yes so my apologies. Interesting regarding the Taisan sister car and I'd agree, it's a strange thing to do. Thank you for your kind comments about my car. I had not seen the 2 spare F40 engines in the auction. I would have bid. It will be very interesting to see what they went for too!

No problem. I was at the auction and at least one of the engines appeared to be qstill for sale, probably engine no. 32436 if my limited Japanese is correct.

Cool. Did you see what 80780 went for? Having very briefly worked in Tokyo I can only imagine how hard it must have been to follow the auction!

The F40GT 80872 is missing its original engine. Could it be one of those two they auctioned off?

Although I had planned to bid, I just didn't rate the car as $1m+. I expected the restoration would run $3-400k and apparently I didn't value the privateer race history as others had. I did think the engines were a good value...

The F40 was bought by a Japanese Race Car Collector, so it stayes in Japan.

Non matching engine, gearbox, condition was not good and so you can easy put another 3-400 $/Eur in the car.

BUT, still a very cool car, n Michelotto, but still very cool...

They dont will pop up so often on public sales.
