    Hi everyone,

I reached out to Frederica Santoro with a technical question about the FXX, unfortunately I did not get an answer, so I will try here.

    Dear Frederica,

Like many Ferrari fans I have been enjoying the sound of the XX Programme cars in YouTube videos for many years, and recently I was finally able to see them live at the Nürburgring. Many people think the FXX Evo is the best sounding car ever, and I agree. Most also prefer it over the 599XX Evo and even over the FXX K Evo, because of the howling sound on the downshift, whereas the 599XX and FXX K have more of a bark with pops and bangs. Now I am wondering why the FXX sounds so "clean" and loud on the overrun after the throttle blip. I know of very few cars that sound this loud on the overrun. To be clear, I am not talking about the pops and bangs, I mean the howling sound while engine braking. Could you please have one of the XX engineers shortly explain to me what is the reason for this loud howling sound on the overrun/engine braking? Does it perhaps have to do with overlap of the intake and exhaust valves? Or is it the intake we are hearing rather than the exhaust?

I would very much appreciate any technical info you can provide, even though I am not a member of the "XX Exclusive Experience".

What I mean by "is it the intake we are hearing rather than the exhaust" is that I can imagine that perhaps the electronic throttle control of the F140DA keeps the throttle valve open during off-throttle overrun, obviously not for a blown diffuser in this case, but for other reasons like valve cooling or things beyond my understanding.

As the page I linked to mentions:
I would appreciate hearing any insider info people have on this.

And in case anyone could have forgotten about the noise I'm talking about, here is a great video.
