I need to buy a new laptop. I want to keep Windows XP as I'm totally used to having Outlook Express as my email system. Yes, yes, I know I'm probably hopelessly behind the times, but how can I get a new(ish) laptop with XP? I've checked the places a techtard like myself would normally look...ebay, the big online equipment dealers, etc., with no success. I understand the new Surface Pro supports "Outlook" but I think they're referring to the new MSFT Outlook system, correct?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Can you buy a new machine and do an XP downgrade? This would allow for a current spec pc but with an older OS. Maybe you can just do a hdd partition and dedicate more space to XP if you can't just do a straight downgrade.

    Thanks, Greg.

I've thought of that but haven't been able to get an answer. Perhaps someone here will know.

Do you have an XP disk? (An original with the long key code).

If yes, you're home free; Get a new box with, I guess, Windows 7. It'll have much disk space. Split it into two partitions and throw XP onto the new one and you've got the best of both worlds.

    Cheers,

Instead of doing all that, why don't you setup an outlook.com account and import your existing outlook express settings?

Be careful about "downgrading" to XP: you may have trouble finding drivers to work your new hardware with XP. Not everything is backwards compatible. Pick a model number for a popular laptop and Google it with "downgrade XP" and see if you can find someone else who has done it. You can't just go to Dell's website (for example) and find XP drivers readily available - they may not exist. You may be able to find drivers from the component manufacturers but find out for sure before you head down this road.

There are lots of refurbished machines available with XP and most of them are under $200.00. Try Amazon or Newegg.

Nixsys (I know nothing about them at all) sells a brand-new laptop that supports XP for almost $600, seems very expensive to me.
