Mystery solved, this is a new function on Google Maps where you can report a speed trap and crash sites.

My cable which apparently will be turned off next year is faster, about 55Mbps

And, 5G will probably be orders of magnitude faster.

Oh well, it is at least faster than what I used to have.

 

Can some one send me some links to search search engines other than Google.
It’s getting frustrating not being able to access Google in China... such a first world problem in a 1.5 world country.
And no b....ing YouTube.

I stay at the W in Guangzhou, got google, youtube, the lot

Try yahoo or bing, they might not be banned

Or use the Chinese version of google, Baidu

 

As JM says Yahoo works Graeme....My Gmail even gets blocked there....

Thanks guys for the suggestions, I have been staying in 5 star as that’s the Viking cruises way, and most have decent WiFi but no Google or YouTube.
Yahoo works and I can log into the Telstra site.

Bing and Baidu work Bing being the better.

 

Yep Google is blocked by the government and not the hotels....

I just want them to bring down the GFW of China, I'm sick of using "means" to get data to the clients in China ...... if you want to trade with the world you have to allow the world in

 

You may have tried this, the Americans on the trip I was on were using a VPN and getting full access, So they told me

 

The Chinese have been blocking IPSEC VPNs for ages but SSL or OpenVPN will work, unfortunately they do not have the functionality for business networks requiring calling from either end, the VPN the Yanks were using vary the port if need be to bypass the VPN blocking the Chinese are doing

There are ways to get IPSEC to work but it requires some scripts to vary the ports the "wall" is blocking

 

Have you tried switching it off and on again?
