This has become one of my fav threads. Someone earlier mentioned they liked it because it's just a bunch of old school car guys, I can't agree more! Love the Lancia's, Fiats, old Bimmers and Mercs!

    Hi,

Thank you for the kind words. No mention of the Beetle's featured though, the proverbial Porsche without the horsepower.

To be honest, classic car owners here face unbeleivable obstacles keeping their cars running, and still they use every opportunity to bring them out and enjoy them. Frankly thats one of the reasons I enjoy posting this thread.

Here's a picture from day 2 of the Beetle Rally as the cars line up.

    Regards,

    Ramin

    Hi,

Thank you for the thumbs up.

Here the cars are getting their rally booklets for the return back to Tehran. If you don't recognize the pickup used by the rally team, it's an Iranian design manufactured by a company called Zamyad.

    Hi,

I figured as long as we are on the topic of VW Bugs (Porsche's without the horsepower), the most logical jump would be to go to actual Porsche's. In September 2011, our local Porsche dealer contacted us about the visit of a father and son team driving across Iran in a Porsche 928. This was part of a two month, 24,000 km trek across Asia visiting over 23 different capitals. The guys, Phillipe Delaporte and his son Baudoin, were fantastic, and we had a good time, and even arranged a couple of local Porsche's to drop by, followed by some track time.

You can see their trip on Expédition Porsche 928 with some fantastic pictures of their trip. Its well worth a look.

    Regards,

    Ramin

First Picture is of the 928 arriving at the dealer.

The 928 roadtripping through Asia... FANTASTIC! (Yes, I had to use capital letters, I think the concept is way cooler than just using a modern 4x4 to plow through the countries).

Going to the classifieds to check out the 928 market now... Sweet cars.

    Hi,

One of the first questions I asked him was how he came about to use a 928. He said that as an owner, he felt the car was robust enough to handle such a trip. The car had been trouble free throughout the trip. Given the routes he used (at least in Iran) I am sure that he had more than a couple 150mph runs, something you would not get in a run of the mill 4x4.

    Here is an engine shot.

    Hi,

Couldn't agree more. What was even better was that both father and son were really great guys as well and we enjoyed hanging out with them.

After the dealer visit, we arranged some track time at the Azadi race track. This pic is on the way to the race track.

    Hi,

The 928 was escorted to the track by Bahram Fallahi in his 911 Carrera, a veteran race driver with several national titles in both saloon car and rallies.

    Hi,

Notwithstanding the beefed up suspension and all terrain tires, the 928 distinguishged itself quite well on the track.

    Dear Tarek,

    Thanks for the thumbs up.

As long as we are covering long car treks, I am posting a few photo's from the Himalaya Trial rally which took place in 2008. This rally was from Holland to the foot of the Himalayas. We arranged the Iran leg starting from the Turkish border (Bazargan ) to Pakistani border (Zahedan). Mercedes Benz Iran provided three support vehicles for the Iran leg. The pictures are from the Azadi race track as the cars had a time trial around the track.

We really enjoyed working with this group. Everybody was kind and polite and seemed to be really enjoying themselves despite such a long and ardous journey.

Here the first cars are entering the race track.

    Enjoy,

    Ramin
