good god people stop telling em to come to Austin...this place is going to be so overcrowded soon...i think before you are allowed to come to austin you should have to do at least 20 years in houston or dallas...

    ....and pretty much EVERYTHING! LOL!

Fine..... don't move here, that's just more fine ladies for US!!! :)

Austin was cool long ago, but well, that was long ago.

It has a vibe now that reminds of ....I dunno....So. Cal?
Not to knock So. Cal, it's just to find the "old Austin" you have to dig pretty deep..

I do like both places actually,..... but no doubt it's easier to make more money here unless you are in IT or computers, then the 'Silicon Gulch' is the place to be! :)

Yea, I agree w/ you on this one BigTex... Austin, is certainly NOT what it used to be! I have been here (well, northern part up to Georgetown) for 25 years now and it is WAY to crowded here now! Still better weather than Houston though!

HI guys newbie here my second post. I've been lurking for a few weeks here, lots of great things to read here.

Houston is a great place. Some people love it and some people love to hate it. I've been here one year now and I love it. I moved here from the DC area. I bought a highend 4400 sqft house here in the suburbs with everything I can ever dream of in a house. Now the best part of all is it was for half the price of an average quality condo that I owned in the DC area that was only 1100 sqft.

Houston has it's ups and downs. Yes its no San Diego no nice beaches or great weather year round. But the weather is real nice in Houston 8 or 9 months out of the year. July, Aug, and Sept suck (very humid). But the rest of the year the weather is nice and you don't have to worry about the cold either. Just about everyone can afford to buy a house in houston. Just some people would rather have a new truck then own a house. Prices are good here if you want to start a business. The economy is great here (well as good as or better then any other part of the country when you look at over all numbers). There are more fortune 500 companies in Houston then anywhere else. We just beat out New York I read.

There are lots of nice areas to buy a house you just need figure out what you want. My wife is a real estate broker so I go with her to see alot of the houses. Galleria area there are almost new dethatched Patio homes with about 3000sqft for $340k. Someone said Westcott area here you can get a nice 3 story town home with around 3000sqft for around $400k. There is an area close to sugarland, called Missouri City it has a huge master planned subdivision called Lake Olympia with over 5000 homes. Depending in what area of the subdivision you live in as to the house price range and quality of the house. You can get a nice place on the lake with a boat dock in your back yard and 3400sqft for less then $300k. Or a huge 9000 plus sqft place down the street from it for $1.7mil

Anyway it comes down to what do you value the most. If you want great outdoor activities then Houston is not the best place. If you want to be able to save and stretch you money and live comfy then Houston is great.
