Only speeding ticket I’ve received in 40+ years of driving occurred maybe 8-10 years ago and I knew it was incorrectly issued, as just moments earlier (before I saw the LEO) I had made mental notes of couple of things.

    1. Having just gotten on to the freeway (on weekday, mid-morning) and knowing a need to get off in about a mile and half, I stayed on the RH lane (of the 4-lane freeway section).
    2. I noticed several (most ?) vehicles on the 3 lanes left of me were moving quite fast, so I glanced at my speedometer which showed about 60 (speed limit was 65) and thought to myself the faster vehicles must be exceeding 80.

Right after this I turned on my RH signal and stared slowing down as I was approaching the beginning of the ramp I’m to use for exit. At this moment I also noticed an LEO sitting on his motory on the side of freeway, near the beginning of the aforementioned exit ramp and pointing a radar “gun” toward oncoming traffic which included me.

Once I reached the top of the (long) exit ramp I was quite surprised to see him behind with the “lights” on.
I did pull over and after he walked over to tell me he caught me at almost 80, I asked “Are you absolutely sure, Officer ? It's just I was driving below 65 and further slowing down in preparation to exit when I noticed you, not to mention there appeared to have been multiple other vehicles traveling at speeds 20+ mph faster than I ?”
His reply was something like “No Sir, I had my radar sight pointed at your truck, but you have a right to dispute the ticket in court”.

I didn’t care to argue and moments later he handed me a ticket which, IIRC, indicated something like 10 or so mph over the posted speed limit.
A week or two later, I called to checked how much the fine was, wrote the check, sent it and moved on.

Last thing I wanted was to be perceived as one of those ******* who get caught driving excessively and then run to their favorite snowflake forum asking for attorney recommendations, instead of facing the consequences of their misdeed like grownups. I mean really ? No self-respect ?

Years ago my son loaded up his Dodge Challenger with three of his football team friends and they drove from Golden, Colorado to Padre Island for spring break. Driving straight through etc. The drive south out of Colorado south of Amarillo is desolate and two lane with various small towns with reduced speed limits. Around 3am entering one of those towns, they blew through at 60 or so in a 25, and got pulled over. The two officers asked them if they had guns or pot or booze in the car. They said no sir. Then one of them would take each kid off to the side and pressure him to tell him where in the car the pot was. Individually they all said there was none. They then proceeded to search the car. They took the spare out, the jack, the back seat, all their luggage, looked through their bags etc. The stop lasted about an hour. When done my son got a speeding ticket and they went on their way. Lucky for him he did NOT have pot in the car.

I know what my signature line indicates, but being that I'm not very apt with computer use, the editing (time) limitations of this forum still suck !

Oh, another thing I can't understand is when some people (those same pu**ies ?) cry on their favorite snowflake forums about their speeding or any other tickets given by LEOs being just revenue accumulators. WTF !
Even if they enhance local jurisdictional budgets, as far as I know, the bottomline is that they're usually given to people doing something against commonly accepted rules of law, right ?

The original poster seems to have been cancelled by this group and it may be a cold day at the track before he ever resurfaces.
That being said in 1989 when I was on my way to Boston from NYC I was pegged for 75 in a 55 in my Z28. The officer was very pleasant and as he handed me the ticket let me know if I paid within 7 days it was no points and would not be on my record. Needless to say it was paid the same day.
Today, you either talk your way out of a ticket or you own it for years on your record.
Now as for OP if you are still reading this, find a doctor who’ll swear you have a new onset neurological disorder resulting in spasms of your right leg and maybe you’ll get off with a suspended liscense until that leg thing is cured.

Nah, you meant reprimanded. Being cancelled is different. This is not about OP's opinions or ideology being different from others.

Unfortunately, I do have some speeding ticket stories.

The catered TX BBq sandwich was delicious.

I also have the story of kissing my organ donor bike when she got me home :D.

September 2014, the day of my grandmother's funeral. I'd driven from Toronto to Montreal (600km) after a night shift for the funeral, then to Ottawa (200km) after the wake. My brother needed to be at school the next day in Pembroke (140km away, small roads) and I was the only one still sober. Left Ottawa at around 23:00 to bring him there. I passed a cop just after 1 am, going 48km/h over the limit in the middle of nowhere (according to him; in Ontario 50 over means your license is gone awhile and your car is towed on the spot). I was so exhausted I'd honked a few times as I passed him--I thought I was on cruise control, and in my other car the cancel button was on the right side of the steering wheel, where this E30's horn button was. Explained our story, and somehow got away with a 15 over. The cop asked me why I'd honked, and laughed when I explained. I passed him on the way back, where I was making damn sure not to exceed the limit.

Not the fastest ticket, but definitely the one where I was sure I was about to have the ****tiest day of my life...

    160 in a residential area?

Not sure I understand. The OP just admitted to reckless driving. Don't you consider that a crime? Unless you're one of those folks who also sympathize with the football player who killed a person in Las Vegas. Not sure why using the CGT example would help either; that person is judged as an ass-hat.

There are stupid things, and there are things where you should expect somebody will get killed.

Like, say 170 mph in a residential street.

I know of a lot of stretches of road where I would not be hard on you.

    Say like this:
    Image Unavailable, Please Login
Where are you from where you have a 4 mile straight road in a residential area?

    I'm thinking maybe Dubai?

Let us know where you are from, and provide more context, it could help with some of the harsh responses you've been getting.

Admonishing going 170 mph in a residential zone is being self-righteous?

    Wow.

Well, technically, you're right. I am being self-righteous here.

I would never go 170 mph in a residential zone, and I would consider that 'wrong.'

    I'm guilty as charged.

If he said something like 80, I would say, he was being stupid - and be far less harsh. But 170?!?

Glad you let the community know that you sympathize with folks going 170mph in residential areas.

Curious, do you also sympathize with Henry Ruggs III?

canceled means he would be banned.

I actually argue folks that defend somebody going 170mph in a residential street are the ones being 'virtue virgins.' Probably the same folks that would defend murderers due to their 'upbringing.' The admonishment/defense "holier than though" card can go both ways.

We all make a moral judgment. Some admonish 170 in 25, some are tolerating it.

I for one don't sympathize with ass-hats engaging in the extreme, and egregiously gross negligence. Some folks like to excuse the behavior. That's fine. Okay to call me self-righteous, what those folks don't realize though is the same label can be applied to them.

I'm just glad a thread like this allows the community to see what side folks lie.

Some folks will say of course, well, where's that line? It's like porn, you know when you use it.

You know, like going 170 mph in a residential neighborhood?

don't go all self-righteous on us

    ;)

    Going 60mph, 70mph, vs 160mph, 170mph, in a residential area? What's the difference?

Obviously a simple mistake of youth.

I seriously doubt speeds like that can be attained on a residential street.

Reckless is subjective, anyway. In VA if you're going 30 over on an empty highway they label it as reckless. In a judicial procedure, in a real court, that would never hold up. There is no crime, and the state would never be able to put forth a witness who was injured or had had property damaged as a result of the fictitious "crime". Only common law crimes are real crimes.

I know a guy in Las Vegas who got a speeding ticket for doing 154 MPH in a 35 MPH zone.

He's probably going to get 40 years in prison.

A speeding ticket my son will never forget.
Heading back from the Le Mans Classic on the Parisian Peripherique, my 18 year old son Olivier got his first!! speeding ticket while driving the 550 Maranello of my brother.
Aanybody that knows this motorway around Paris knows that this is already exciting enough to drive under normal circumstances.
Just imagine the 18 yr old in a Ferrari....!
