besides the mega basics (light, fast, 4 cyl, etc) Im thinking about trying to pick up a used/already assembled one (SV) but i dont know if there were any major differences between years or anyhting. Also, which have IRS? Are they prone to problems? In a recent motortrend (or something) article on a CSR they said it had a lot of problems. How difficult would it be to swap a new motor in one? and what trans do they use and for what years/models Also, wheres the best place to look for used ones?
Have a look at the owners site: http://www.blatchat.com/default.asp You can only post if you are a member but use the search function - it's a busy site and just about every question you could come up with has already been asked. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me. I've got the engine out of my Caterham at the moment for a bit of work - porting head, larger valves...etc but when it goes back in I'm hoping for about 250bhp from a car that weighs 485kgs - should be a lot of fun!!! Here's the link for the US distributor. Caterham USA They have a link to their dealer list right on the front page.
Are there other companies that make kit "super 7s"? I know donkervoort makes one, are there others? Also, are there plans to where you can build it all your self (chassis on up)? any links you can toss my way? thanks
Lots of kits and there is a book on how to build your own. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1859606369/sr=8-1/qid=1155010536/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-6639152-1900621?ie=UTF8 Do a search on Locost if you want to learn how to build one.
There are loads of companies that do 'Seven-esque' cars. Caterham is the 'official' maker having bought the rights off Lotus in the '70s Also take a look at the other 'main players' http://www.donkervoort.info/ http://www.westfield-sportscars.co.uk/ http://www.birkindirect.com/ In the UK these can be bought as a complete ready assembled car or as a kit of parts and then self-built: that's what I did - excellent fun and a great learning experience! Not sure about the legislation in the US regarding self-build but I know there are plenty of Sevens in the US so it clearly is possible.
