Problem: I have 2 ferraris, 360 c/s and mondiale T.[That's really a good problem!] The c/s of course gets the single car garage. An architect and surveyer evaluated my property... no room for a legal garage extension!!!! I do not want to rent out a garage a mile away [takes away the spontanaity of jumping into one car or the other!] The architect said that it is legal for a Temp./ portable garage attached to the other garage but not the house. Please advise about companies and experience with ??canvas?? but very well made "portable" garages. I would drill footings into the cement for stability but I need a real quality product that will not blow down or away with a Long Island snow storm!!
Really need help soon, company names, phone numbers, internet addresses; the c/s returns from the shop next week.

    Help,
    Tom.

For a few years I had a temporary "tent" style garage over a tube framework, on a blacktop side driveway next to my attached garage. My only bit of advice is that you do NOT get the end panels for such a garage, it just holds the moisture inside and causes corrosion. I had my junky old '67 Impala in there, and all of the plated hardware in the engine compartment got more rust on it in those two or three years than in the previous 25 years or so, plus mildew in the interior. Not a good place to store a Ferrari in the winter.

In the winter I keep the two Ferraris stacked....one on top of the other, using a lift, in our two car garage (the other bay is my wife's and she won't give it up!). In the summer, I keep one in a CoverIt, which is a tubular framed thing with cloth on the outside that looks like a quanset hut. It has ends, including a zip down door, but I keep the door open and rolled up in the summer for the very reason Miltonian said. It just keeps the car out of the rain, and works great. I plan to build an additional 2 car garage in the future, so this is temporary.

I had one of these for a few months. It's difficult to use, unless you don't regularly use the car. Car had to be lined up correctly. takes a while to zip it up. If there is any moisture, it's messy.
After a couple months, I stopped using it and got a tubular framed portable garage. After it rains, I make sure the flap is open so the moisture escapes. I think that is the best and most effective temporary solution.

As a surveyor and engineer, I have many clients who apply for a variance if what they are proposing is not in line with what the ordinance calls for. Call me if you need some more advice.

get a nice enclosed trailer and park it next to your garage. i keep my little kit car in mine and use it for my car when going to distant events.

I don't know where you live but if you're somewhat rural you might consider one of those cargo cantainers the kind they load on ships. I know someone who has bought a couple and uses behind his machine shop to store raw material. They're very reasonably priced like $1200 and you can drive your car in and out fairly easily. But of course not something you'd want to put in a nice nieghborhood.

As far as moisture in those cocoons...I have a customer who used to make those for Military Tanks, they told me they had to be capable of sitting in a forest unattended for fifteen years without corrosion. I don't know what they used to absorb moisture but I'll try to find out.

No enclosed garage here so the solution is a Cargopro Series 3000 aluminum trailer (also used to tow the 308 or the Van Diemen Formula Continental to track events.

Was JUST checking on the car and she looks wonderful. Will be adding tie downs once the weather heats up as need to calculate where i want them to be dual-use for either car. The 308 is easy, the 2-inch ground clearance FC is another story...

I thought about putting the Ferrari in the trailer so I could work on the race car in the garage. Then I realized it would void my agreement with Hagerty Insurance whereas it it stated the car must be kept in a locked garage.

Sorry, my bad. Just in case for future searches they can find either. Posting dual is short-lived, search is forever.
