Has anyone ever heard of rebuilding your old tensioners. My understanding is that in the 348, they use FSK bearings in the tensioners. Why not just press them out and replace them with new bearings?

If the surface of the tensioner has corrosion, you may want to buff that out.

Other than that, I can't think of a good reason not to re-use the tensioner, with fresh bearings. The bearings are sealed, though, so is it possible to replace this sealed bearing? I'm not sure..

Too much time/effort required to pay yourself a decent wage -- really.

Better to pay sponsor Hill Engineering (or their distributors) for new outers and new bearings (and a small part of their development cost) IMO (even with the bad exchange rate):

I tried Hill Engineering's website, but it's down right now.

    Anybody know why?

    Are they still in business?

The new tensioners also have a larger/better bearing than the original tensioner.

I used the hill engineering tensioners in my major service (last Aug). Rather, the dealer wouldn't install them so I found an independant mechanic. The difference is worth the effort. The mechanic (20 yrs) said it was the first time he had seen aftermarket parts better than Ferrari. I jotted down some dimensions: all better, bigger bearings and higher temp grease. Great parts from Ricambi as usual.

PM your email addresss for jpegs.
