A couple of weeks ago I posted about the ragin' Prius in Boulder. Today I ran into another one of those unique Boulder things. I was talking to a guy that had a Tesla with temp tags still on it. He had a bumper sticker that said "Democrats take from the rich to feed the smug". Odd in an uber liberal place like Boulder. I asked him how he liked the car and the whole experience of doing the sporty green thing. He said he loved the car but in 3 weeks it's been keyed twice and super glue put in the locks once. Seems like the car would be embraced in Boulder but I guess the bumper sticker cancels out the perceived goodness. It means something, I'm just not sure what.
its tough to live in Boulder with an exotic, and that the trustafarian indigenous hippies here should be killed.
why I don't have bumper stickers on any of my cars. Sad that we live in a society that we can't express our views without fear of persecution.
+1 Same. I always judge other drivers by their bumper stickers, but I don't want to be judged the same way. You never know how things will be taken. My car has no bumper stickers, oval decals, collegiate banners, dealer badges, plate frames - even parking stickers. I don't want anyone to be able to assume anything about me based on the back of my car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The vandals probably don't even know it is an electric car. I used to park my 360 all over town, never had a problem. Maybe he should just take off the bumper sticker.
In the many decades I've been here I've never had a problem either. In Boulder the bumper sticker is probably provacation. The Tesla is lost on me. Even with the novelty it's way down on my list of cars I'd want to own. The syling is off IMO. I did like the shell seats though.
I agree, seems a goofy car to me. I was downtown this morning, and there is a new Tesla showroom on the corner of 9th and Pearl. They had a couple of cars out front and the big video cameras running. The showroom is obviously temporary as the building is slated for being someday demolished and rebuilt.
And yet, Boulder is the residence of one of the best F-car mechanics of all time..... go figure. James in Denver
Not sure I agree. I think in any environment it can be a bad idea to be in be in someones face if you're the minority. The bumper sticker probably qualifies. I've had several people driving Prius' anxious to chat about my 430. I still find it odd when people of a supposedly passaive persuasion go off the hook.
I drove through Boulder today in my louda$$ GT just so I could ruin some hairy armpit, liberal tree hugging, dope smoking, mooch off society, hippyette's day. Sorry! Not really...
Imagine the looks I get driving my truck (with exhaust system) around a town so anti-truck its ridiculous... I do however sometimes park in the "alternative fuel" vehicle spots just to piss off hybrid owners
Interesting discussion. I just picked up an H1. Was thinking about putting FUPRIUS on the license plate. But thought better of that given where I live up here in the PNW (tree huggers paradise).
From what I have heard from H1 owners, you won't need the plate to get abuse heaped upon you. Hope you're ready. Dave
i had a hummer h1 in the early days when it was actually cool to have one. you gotta have big balls to drive one now. have you seen this site? www.fuh2.com pretty much the sentiment for all hummers, h1, h2, h3...
let's get it over with, put a real engine in it Seriously, a toyota engineer told me the big surprise iwth a Prius comes at about 80,000 miles when you have to replace the battery pack for about $3000 then I read in the paper that it's $4600 for the battery pack Not to mention you probably have to pay some ecology fee to get a junkyard to take the old one. Soon the price of a battery pack will exceed the price of a used Prius And I talked to an ex R & T editor who told me the fuel cell "will always be 15 years away no matter what year it is)
