got an offer in mail to test drive new qp and then get free gift basket from omaha steaks. kind of tacky but i guess they need more showroom traffic.

went today and just do not understand the qp. it is somewhat 'sporty' and has nice sound on start up. this is an advantage if you really want a sports car but require a sedan. problem is most people in this market can have a luxury car AND a sports car. it doesnt have any room in back compared to long wheelbase competition. not much more room than my sons s4 which has a much more athletic feel to it. rs4 (and i imagine the new 4 door m3) will have even more of an advantage. it is also significantly more expensive than s5oo, 750, a8l. bentley is more $ but is probably worth it to those seeking a status car. there is no awd option which hurts northern climate. style is always subjective but interior and exterior seem a generation behind the competition.

i want maser to succeed but they need better products soon or will have to start offering free cars.

The only point where i agree with you is about the interior styling and their outdated GPS sys.

Other than that the car is amazing. The rear space is not the best but i rarely see the exec sedans filled with people. It will never sell in Mb S class numbers but it is selling pretty well , at least in Europe. It would definitely be the sedan i would buy if i needed one.Over an M5 , E63 or S8..

true about europe. i was in france in july and qp was everywhere.

i was talking about here in usa. m5, s8, s55 are all versions of standard cars and do not sell in big numbers here. qp is only version and lack of room, awd, etc will prevent it from ever becoming popular here.

maybe next version will be beautiful enough that will sell on looks alone. like jaguar used to be able to do

Couple of the choices here are interesting......I can't choose between updating my S8 to a new one: V10, incredible performance (no trouble staying with 360s and 997s on tours), or moving to a QP (with the old transmission) for the style and 'feeling' of being in a Maserati. Love the S8 on technical basis, love the QP for the 'retro' feeling when driving. the others aren't even on my radar; they're just sedans.

I say go for the QP. It is such a loveable car. The sort of car you look back to after you parked it. I had one for 3 days in Paris and everytime i parked it i couldnt stop looking . It might not be as perfect as an S8 in terms of finish or technology but it sure has more character .

I'm doing a test drive Saturday morning at Maserati of Baltimore.

I've never been behind the wheel of a Maser before; I'll try and get some seat time w/both an automatic and DuoSelect...we have an SMG M3, so I am familiar w/paddle-shift manuals, although I know Maserati's is a bit different. Magneti Marelli made the mechanism, am I correct?

Any advice for the test drive? I was offered the choice of Omaha Steaks or golf balls. I'm going for the steaks..the entire idea surprises me, to be honest. They must be hurting for showroom traffic.

I've heard that they are not selling here. Something about the lease rate being a lot more than BMW, Mercedes or Audi.

Funny though, I just got back from Home Depot and there was one loading up some lumber and construction stuff.
    Weird.
