MODENA, Italy (AP) -- McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa met Tuesday with an Italian prosecutor investigating the Ferrari spy scandal.

De La Rosa spoke to Modena prosecutor Giuseppe Tibis about the alleged e-mails containing secret engineering details that the McLaren drivers could access, according to the ANSA news agency.

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso met with prosecutors October 9.

Neither driver is under criminal investigation, but they are considered to have knowledge of the facts in the case.

McLaren was fined a record $100 million by the World Motor Sport Council on September 13 after a separate investigation by Formula One's governing body (FIA) found McLaren guilty of using leaked secret data from Ferrari.

The FIA investigation centered on phone records and a trail of e-mail exchanges. They included correspondence between De la Rosa and McLaren chief designer Mike Coughlan, and De la Rosa and Alonso.

McLaren was also kicked out of the constructors' championship by FIA.

Tibis is also investigating former Ferrari mechanic Nigel Stepney for providing the confidential material to McLaren, and for an alleged sabotage attempt on Ferrari's cars earlier this year.

Italian justice... they hounded people over the death of Ayrton Senna for ages. Nice to see they are still earning their keep.
