I can't buy that. Fuel mapping changes would also make the earlier 458's more powerful but less fuel efficient. I've never met an owner who claimed their 458 got less powerful as it was upgraded. But perhaps you're right.

When driving the 488, I thought this would make a great daily driver and super for touring.

I also thought, in this one, the sound system would actually be relevant because in the 458, I never used it even once. I was too interested in listening to the engine...

Afaik the change was done to comply with Us emissions. I have driven both softwares and can't feel a big difference in power between them.

Black seats with red accents would have been better. I agree steering wheel and dash in red are very cool.

If one wants perhaps the final expression of Ferrari excess, explosiveness and NA symphony do yourself a favor and buy a Speciale. Maybe the last great V8 Ferrari before we go into the V6 and turbo night....

You make "the" point - each successive generation (of people) forget about the last generation of cars. It is only those of us who have had and are able to have whatever is new, that compare and contrast. You can't go home again. I loved my 1980 Porsche Turbo (which I just gave to two of my sons) but when driving it some of last year, I realized, it is rough and unsophisticated. When new, if I could have parked it in my bedroom I would have (I actually did that with a BSA motorcycle once). Although one could argue it is a drivers car, certainly compared to the 997/991 Turbo's, I would argue that neither one is "fun". I suspect those of us who have raced cars and those who have owned more or less what they have wanted, are continually asking themselves, "to keep or not to keep"? I once wrote a paper entitled "Change or Progress"? We keep making advancements, but as Mario Andretti once said, the only way to know you have driven a track 10/10th's is to go 11/10th's and come back to the pits with (just) a steering wheel. When do we reach the pinnacle depends on when you were born and what you have been able to play with. Best

You know... as a little side thought... I spent years working on my '97 Supra TT until it was exactly as I wanted it to be. That includes both the speed and the "excitement" of the turbine and explosive waste gate. Actually had the modders revert it one step back because the new waste gate was too quiet. The end result was a very usable 650 HP and 550 ft-lb's torque. And it was "stepped" exactly as the new 488 is. You don't get full boost until 5th gear, so you can wind the racing 3.2 liter engine out to 7200 RPM in all gears with "some" no-traction-control side slip. And the lag has been greatly minimized over the years. I took a guy who has driven in every car imaginable out for a full-on ride. He had the biggest grin on his face. My point being, I do believe it's possible to have a straight 6 car raise your heart rate and just impress the crap out of you.... to stir your soul. Does it sound like my 458S? No.. utterly different animals. But it is possible to have an extremely exciting ride that's not a V-anything. I adore the 458S, but I also love the "edge of your seat" feeling of the Supra and the audible assault on your senses. The insane acceleration and Brembo brakes that bulge your eyeballs out. Funny thing was, my wife preferred the Supra even though I think it's a "wilder" animal. Go figure. Final conclusion for me: It's how the whole package comes together. Always has been and always will be.

Hello to all the forum. This is my first post after a long period of reading.
    I'm Italian and I own a red 458 which I really love.
    Before this I had a Gallardo and then a 997 Turbo S.
Like the opener I had the chance to test the 488 and was disappointed. For sure not for how the car is made and about driving it. My disappointment arrived when my friend drove it cause the noise from outside (and from inside) is completely different.
Seems like it is muffled, lower and less “sexy”.
I bought the 458, selling Turbo S, cause in Turbo S (that is an incredible machine) I was missing Gallardo’s sound.
So I think I will stay with the 458 for a while and then decide what to do. May be a F12 or a Hurracan…

Yes, its too much IMO. I have a red interior but it also should have some contrast.

Thank you to your input. Amazing to see how many Italia owners also have owned 911 Turbo's and share similar experience. Welcome to fchat.

I too own a 2015 458 and recently sold my Nissan GTR which reminded me of a video game....great speed and performance but lacked soul and driver connection. At Monterey I drove the 488 pretty hard and concluded that my 458 was maybe slower but gave me a raw sensation that could not be matched by the 488. It also reminded me of my GTR and I was happy to drive back home in the 458!

I was thinking he could also get rid of the yellow horsey emblem in the steering wheel for a red one. :)
