Any one has installed Test pipes / High performance CAT on a F430. which one gives a better result? Is it better than upgrade the whole exhaust system??
I have put straight through titanium test pipes on my 430 Challenge without any silencing. It makes a huge difference. Here is a Youtube link of my car at 2009 Macau GT race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzsoDpXkuSQ
Wonderful drive, that is amazing, my plan is to change the CAT and keep the Stock Exhaust system. Any suggestions??
F430 cats are different to the Scud cats. I think the only brand that sells cats for the Scud is Larini. Tubi should have them out very shortly
Scuderia Cats should be the same than 430, apart that 430 have the pre-cats too, so the Scuderia system is already more free flowing standard. tubi for the moment has only test pipes in range. If we remove the cats, anyway i think it necessary to have the ecu remapped!?
IMSS carries the Xost brand. Check with service manager Ben on test pipe availability and pricing. He did the conversion for a few guys racing under IMSS team banner in 2008 GT3 Asia. My titanium test pipes were custom fabricated with a supplier my race team has worked with for a few years. Titanium is very light and also has the added advantage of being a good heat insulator, so there will be less heat build up in the engine compartment. The down side is that it's less durable than stainless steel in high temperature loads. I don't mind the shorter service life of titanium pipes because I can get them made for less than buying stainless steel test pipes from brand names. So I just treat them as consumable parts to be replaced after 2 race seasons.
the cats are different which is why there is a specific part number for the Tubi scud decat pipe. i have seen/heard a 16M with decat pipes and the novitec muffler and it was aeroplane loud without any tone.
Ah ok good to know.. i was pretty sure that part was the same! Yes i think with the decat and muffler the car is too loud, i kept the cats on purpose..
I try to talk to Ben, but the car is still underwarranty, I am not sure if he is still willing to do so. Mine is a normal F430, car is for SMD and tack day purpose. I think I stick with the stainless steel. Thanks for the advice.
Thats because the Novitec muffler doesnt sound good. The Kreissieg muffler and test pipes sounds awesome.
Ive had 9 different Tubis. If the car doesnt sound good then I wont keep it. I would never buy anything other than a Tubi unless I was convinced that it was a good product. I bought the Novitec within seconds of hearing it on another 16M. To me it sounded phenomenal. In fact everyone who has heard my Novitec says it sounds incredible. That includes my main dealer, the independent workshop I use and even Tubi here in the UK. My point was that you dont need decat pipes with the Novitec as its overkill. A simple case of less is more. I do prefer the Titanium Tubi simply because it looks better in the engine bay.... have a look at Integra's vid and you can see the titanium turning blue. The Kreissieg which you offered to sell me is also 5 times the price! Thats overpriced for an exhaust. I know you also said the Titanium Tubi didnt sound good at all, but I'd beg to differ with you on that point also. I think the best set up would be the Titanium Tubi with Tubi cats and thats still going to be less than the Kreissieg without the cats.
and Titanium is lighter too! ;-) Have you any pic or video of the Novitec muffler, to be able to hear it?
Yeah, my friend that had the Kreissieg for sale pretty much gave it away for half price to a neighbor. They are expensive for an exhaust, but the quality is very good. I like the lightweight of the Tubi, but Im a 355 enthusiast, I really cant think of any better exhaust sound(very F1). Im just a fan of Kreissieg. Somehow, they always manage to get the high pitched scream from anything. But, I will say on a couple cars the high pitched sound is NOT good. Some need a deep rumble.
I havent measured the weight of the Novitec v Tubi but I think they are around the same as the Novitec has virtually no muffler. I have heard the Tubi on a friends car and it sounds similar to my Novitec. The difference is at high rpm where there is more 'ring' to the Tubi due to the titanium. With the Novitec there is more cracks and pops especially when changing gear and no CEL. Pics are here:- http://ferrarichat.com/forum/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=3709
Correct cat for scud is different from regular 430,s at the moment Larini is the only one that has them. I have KS and the sound and quality is great but to be honnest is overpriced...
A question? if the test pipes are fited will the CEL will be on. I am a bit worried about that. Any one has ideal to play around with the sensors to avoid CEL to be ON. Thanks guys
Yes. Test pipes will trigger a CEL. You'll need to have your ECU modified to have it work rite. If I remember correctly, Fabspeed will do the reprogramming if you need it. I have the Fabspeed high-flow cats on my F430 and haven't had any problems (along with the Capristo Race mufflers). No ECU modifications. Try calling Scuderia Systems in the UK. They regularly fit decat pipes and I think they move the sensor out of the exhaust flow (im not sure so please check with them).
Has anyone tried to hollow the stock precat out of the F430 headers? I'm sure it couldn't take more than 10 minutes a side once the regular cats are off.
The CEL will be on permanently Pat. The O2 sensor at cat is there to determine if the cat efficiency is correct. The moment you remove that, the O2 sensor will see that there is no change in CO2 between the first O2 sensor in the headers and the second one in the cats and it will trigger the CEL. The only way to cure this is to find a software company to desensitise the Cat O2 sensor, but you will 100% need to remap your software because the AFR will be too lean.
I have an '06 F430 with Fabspeed headers and cat bypass with OEM muffler. I did this with the hope that I could keep that wonderful stock sound but turn the volume up! Guess what, it worked! (I also have CF air boxes from MACarbon because they have the resonator cambers). The sound is crazy loud and amazing. Sadly, the CEL is always on... I don't want anybody to touch my Ferrari's ECU. I don't think a company who spends millions of dollars on programming can be "improved" by a couple of guys with a laptop. Just my 2 cents
