Took my 308 to this Austrian guy that's worked on every car i've had for 15 years now. He's got a muffler and a body shop as well as a repair facility and specializes in euro cars.

Wanted him to work on the exhaust to make it sound better but on a budget.
Turns out one cat was clogged (toast) and the other sounded like glass was loose on the inside(double toast). You could feel more air coming out of one side than the other.

I wanted to put in two magnaflows and run them out the standard holes in the lower rear valence. He suggested two test pipes that he'd fabricate and just use the standard can exhaust. Said if it smells bad then it's the CIS system that will need be looked at or just live with it.

Does he need to drill a hole in these pipes for the o2 sensor and what about the other two wires that originally went to the cats? Do i wanna keep the original cats just in case?

What year 308? Which K-jet system you have is important for this question (lambda versus non-lambda)

Depending on how deafening you want your car to sound, I would recommend you install two magnaflow mufflers instead of the strait test pipes. Unless of course you want to race the car. I tried straight test pipes on my car and it was far louder than I could stand for any length of time. Lastly, you can have the sensor installed by your muffler guy. I don't have a 308 and so I would not know about which connectors could be left off the system entirely. Suffice to say that the magnaflows to another muffler is doable but also check for any problems you might have with your local emissions control authorities you may need to get your car tested and in this regard it could fail the test.

I plan on running the test pipes into the black can muffler. It'd just be without the cats and have test pipes in lieu of the cats with the standard muffler. Florida doesn't have emissions. The cats are toast and the car passed emissions in VA last year even with the bad cats.

Got the car back and WOW! What a difference.

Love the car and loved the sound at higher revs. Now it sounds great all over the tach. Yeah it has a little exhaust smell but not too bad and well worth it.

Do a search, I seem to recall a source for rebuilding cats. Would be nice to have them rebuilt and saved for future use, if needed.

If the cats are fine, hold onto them....they're Expen$ive to replace. I 'dropped' mine. The sound is great, but rumor has it cat-less cars with Tubis/Stebros sound the best....

BTW, I have an 84 with Lambda....

Thermocouples just wired them up out of the way no need for them since you remove the cats.

That's what he did. Said the cats are three way and need the air from the pump to work right. On '80 with the oil burning issues and the air pump being disabled he thinks destroys the cats.

Finally got a good drive in today between the rain showers...oh man.
