I've noticed a few brands out there and wonder... those that have them, which did you choose. I'm 100% set on doing this as my next mod. and if you have heard different brands, which sounds best? they will be hooked up to the Iding power catback.(not stock muffler)
I had Larini test pipes and a Larini "sport" muffler on mine. Totally F1, and I mean the shreiking spine tinging wail at 7,500 RPM like going thru the tunnel at Monaco, in terms of sound quality, going thru tunnels/underpasses was orgasmic.......I loved it.......loud, but I like that. The workmanship and visual quality of the pieces was exceptional. It was my 3rd Larini system, I wouldn't buy anything else. Period.
In the Soviet Union of California that would be illegal for a muff shop to make test pipes and/or install carrying big penalities.
It is illegal in all states to remove cats as are, theoretically, installing test pipes. That doesn't stop someone(muffler shop, machine shop etc.) from making pieces of tubing. You take one of your cats down to a shop and ask if they could duplicate the angle and length of the unit x2. One day when I had noticed the pipe thingies that looked like coffee cans had fallen on the floor next to the smaller diameter pipes I couldn't remember which one were supposed to be on the car, so I put the smaller tubes back on. Engine was a little noisier but everything seemed fine.
LOL, yes that is true Years ago when I mentioned it at two different shops they acted like I used the code word for a gun silencer. But then again I came in wearing a suit. I think they might of thought I was the Feds
I don't even know, but then it really doesn't matter too much. They are straight pieces of stainless tubing. about a foot long. There is nothing to stop you from removing the cats, you just aren't supposed to do it for street use. You sure can for track work though, and I am sure that is the only way a muffler shop would be willing to make them. Anything else would be unconscionable. For stealth, you can gut the cats and have a straight pipe welded in for smooth flow. You know, so when you go from the track to the concours event, the judge doesn't know. Then right back into that trailer... BTW, once the bypass valve opens, most of the noise is bypassing the main cats too. I did not find a significant sound difference with cats vs. hyperflows vs. test pipes. Of course, this comparison was performed at the track
When you were doing your, um, track work, did you notice a performance difference between the hyperflows and test pipes?
