I used the search function, but didn't come up with anything, although I know this has been discussed before. I'm working on a 1990 Testarosa, and probably 1 out of 4 times that the headlight doors come up or down, one or both of them continue to go up-down-up-down-up-down until the switch is turned on then off, or off then on. Then they return to normal for 3 or 4 sequences. I've replaced the relavent relays C,D,E,F, with the correct part numbers, checked all connections at the motors, cleaned and tightened all the multi connectors at the fuse box, still same problem. I've been told there are some diodes that could be the problem, and I suspect that there are contacts in the headlight door motor gear assemblies that could cause this. Any ideas?
    Thanks, Mike

Given those symptoms, the first place to check is indeed the contacts in the headlight bucket motor box which turns off voltage to the motor relays when reaching 'end of travel'. I.e., when the bucket becomes fully open, and again when it becomes fully closed, motor function ceases and function reverses as sensed by these switch contacts.

Faced with that problem, I would gain access to these contacts and administer a drop of Stabilant 22a. Alternately other sprays are available to enhance contacts, but Stabilant is the best, albeit most expensive.

The schematic snippet below shows the 308 motor bucket contacts and resides in the cylindrical motor-gearbox. Testarossa is more than likely identical. Once you reach the part, the protective cover comes off easily.

I had a very similar problem with my 1991 Testarossa last week - when the light was turned on the headlight came out and did go down immediately either only one side or both sides but one after the other. It turned out to be a problem with the light switch - a part inside this switch was broken. Can be fixed easily but you will have to remove the complete steering rack switch unit and remove some rivets.
