Two of my FAVORITE exotics...together! Love it! Can you give us your views on how these cars compare? Of course the Diablo will kill a TR in a straight line, since it has like 100 more horsepower, but what about other situations? I've always lusted after the Diablo!

 

More power but also more weight.

 

i believe a regular diablo is around the same weight of a TR

the TR is more of a GT

diablo is in the middle btw a TR and an F40

RWD yes.
I believe the AWD is a bit heavier. (at least by the numbers I saw on my friends VT)
I wouldn't mind having a RWD Diablo.
Moot point anyway. Both are fun.

 

87 testarossa and 92 Diablo RWD,

Testarossa - easy to drive, good visibility, sound great with my F1 exhaust ( straight w/o mufflers), 18" speedline wheels helps a lot in corners, brakes need updates, comfortable for long drives, good looks. My wife likes to drive the
TR than Diablo because of the visibility (dash pod is to high).

Diablo - raw, you could hear all the mechanical engine, transmission noises (good noises), always need to be in higher rev to have fun, visibility none, side mirrors useless, too low, but killer looks ( everybody looks ) especially when the
doors open. I have Tubi exhaust, but does not sound as good compare to the TR. Murcie wheels update the car looks.

 

~ I was thinking of asking this in the Lamborghini forum but this seems like a good spot. I know both Ferrari & Lamborghini used the motorized "mouse" seatbelts for US safty regulations. I have never seen a Diablo with it's seatbelts properly attached. How awkward is it to get in/out of a Diablo with the door open and the seatbelt along the floorboard? Any chance of a photo of the Diablo w/the door up and the motorized mouse belt in place?

Not awkward at all. The mice sit below the door sill anyway so they are never in your way. I don't know of any of us that use those things. What a great idea with horrible real life application.


Looks good Junior! The guy that recommended this wheels is probably a genius. Most people probably underetimate his intelligence though due to his movie star looks.

 

Was that a real drag race in the video or were you trying to stay side by side?
I got the same exhaust! "sound great with my F1 exhaust ( straight w/o mufflers)" With Test pipes and no Cats. Amazing how the sound changes with test pipes! Just glorious!!

Thanks. But I'm not sure if I asked the question correctly. With the seatbelt connected to the motorized mouse, and the door opened, is it difficult to get in & out. I tried this once in a Ferrari Mondial Cabriolet which has the "upside down" floor mounted motorized belts and I had to lift up the belt (again while connected to the mouse) to get in.

I know nobody uses them the way they were designed, or designed to meet U.S. passive requirements back then Just wondering.

I think every car is hard to get out of with the seatbelt connected to those things. Which is why they don't make them anymore.

Beautiful cars. I too want to add a Diablo to my stable one day. Could you enlighten me as to the maintenance(cost etc?) Does the Diablo also have a full engine out for the main tune up. Any headaches to look out for or prior threads that helped you while searching for the Lambo?
I have an 88.5 TR and absolutely love it. Would also love to hear from anyone else who has owned both.
I think Shamile has a Diablo as well.

 

Actually thats not true. The U.S. required passive restraints on all cars sold in the U.S. beginning with MY 1990. Ferrari was building 3000 cars a year back then. 600 coming to the U.S. market. The engineering/retooling costs for airbags for a tiny manufacturer like Ferrari & Lamborghini would outweigh the benefits. It wasn't untill brand new models were coming onto market that airbags were designed into the cars.

Mine is an 88.5 and I was told they were required in lieu of airbags as you suggest.

I have no trouble getting in and out of mine, aside from waiting 4 seconds after opening the door to give the mouse time to scurry.

After parking I usually unlatch the shoulder belt and store it in the console out of the way.

I live in the Bay Area, & recognized on the video that one location was Treasure Island. I'm fond of 280 on full moon night's at 4:00am......Mark
