Okay, maybe I'm doing something really wrong but I can't seem to get my front rotors off the 1988.5 Testarossa.

First step remove the two caliper 19mm bolts. Slide out the spring retainer clip on the brake line to allow a little flexibility so as not to have to crack and remove the actual line. Support the caliper.

Using a pin punch, knock out the indentations in the lock nut and rattle off with a 30mm socket and gun.

WHY won't the disk come free at this point. I only wanted to take them to the local garage to have the rotors machined, but I can't get the buggers off.

I see a star shaped plate behind with 6 12mm heads. Does this need to be removed and what's behind that plate.

Time and light got the better of me today, and my bloody manual tells me how to change pads, and service the master cylinder, but not a word about disk removal.

You're in way too deep. The hub (and wheel bearings), held on by the large single lock nut, should remain in place. The disc unbolts from the hub -- remove the two "pointed" studs (item 10) and add "persuasion" ;). Unfortunately, they assemble these parts in an overly-clean condition so they tend to rust together -- I like to add a local light oil/rust preventative film to the mating surfaces to help protect.

PS At www.eurospares.co.uk you can access the euro version TR SPC (which for things like brakes is the same regardless of version)

Thanks Steve. You are 100% correct. I didn't remove those small pins. I thought they were for hanging the wheel on to aid fitment. Seems they have a secondary function.

I'll have another go at it today.

It's not a big problem, just (re)install the lock nut and (re)stake -- one of the nice things about the modern double-row front wheel ball bearing is that the preload is built into the bearing itself and is independent of the lock nut installation torque.

Could you do me a favor, and measure the OD of the male thread on the stub axle? The TR WSM only describes the pre-88.5 front hub assembly (which is a little different design) and has the thread size as M20 x 1.5P -- just wondering if it's the same thread size on the 88.5 and later TR design -- TIA.

mille grazie -- thought it might be the same (the torque spec in the TR WSM is 16 Kg-m = 117 lb-ft).

Well I followed Steve's instructions and I still can't get them off. Apart from applying Oxy heat directly to the disc centres to try and free the apparent rust, I've tried everything to get the buggers off.

I have the car booked for an 'on car' disc grind now as I just can't move them.

Anyway, that's only half the problem. Getting new discs seems to be a nightmare down here.

RDA lists a rotor but can't supply. EBC also lists a disc but also can't supply.

DBA doesn't list any at all for my model.

Has anyone changed rotors (or upgraded) on their 5 stud Testarossa's?
