You need to finish reading the threads you have already started.

    Start with post #4

"It's not too thin. IT'S THE SECOND NUMBER YOU NEED TO LOOK AT, 90.
If it's a full synthetic you can run a lighter weight. It flows better when cold and maintains it's viscosity at high heat better than Dino based oils.
Changing oil in your transaxle isn't going to magically create squealing bearings because it's 5 points lighter than the what you had in there before. You have something else going on in there."

i am sorry but i think so it will , why the gearbox was serviced in 1987 that oil has never been changed that oil is in the bearings , gear box and all parts inside the gear box so i put royal purple in which was very thin going in what do you think it would do to the bearings at cold temp , once it heats up it's ok the bearing or what ever sound goes away telling that the oil is to thin this is what i feel , it shift great better than before i am just asking so ferrari owners if they had any problem like this please using synthetic oil sometime get by the seals and leaks i feel it not thick . i have some royal purple in a jar and the old oil from the gear box and it's night and day the old oil is thicker the royal purple is like water it's that thin. i just want to find out if synthetic came in testarossa's . thank you jim

Google the Shell Gear Oil that belongs in your car and you will have the answer to your question as to whether it is synthetic or not. Shell makes both. You have to make a positive identification of what was in your car.
ODDS ARE THAT IT WAS NOT A FULL SYNTHETIC

BTW, there are hundreds and hundreds Testarossa owners out there that are running synthetic oil in their transaxles with NO bearing noises or failures.

The heavier gear oil that you were running may have been MASKING A MECHANICAL PROBLEM.
Someone may have dumped some 90/140 wt gear oil in there to quiet things down.

WHERE IS THE NOISE COMING FROM? THE FRONT OF THE ENGINE OR THE BACK, HIGH OR LOW?

Keep in mind your old oil is dirty.. hence would make it thicker..
