I had one of the two ECUs replaced at the time I had the 30K and water pump re-done. I think that was 7-12 and it has been fine since.
This morning the 1-6 was coming on and going off with an attendant buzzer.

Doesn't feel like something is wrong with the cats, as the car is running very smoothly, and everything seems fine.

What happens if we disconnect the ECUs completely?

And where is the best place to get a replacement (Ricambi?) should it simply be failing electrically?

I sympathize with you. as mine does the same...no buzzer though. Actually, I have never heard the buzzer - the light just comes on for 5 seconds, then goes off. No blinking, no buzzer, nada...

What did they charge you for the ECU???

My guess would be that that particular buzzer (for low oil pressure and overtemp cats) has been unplugged on many TR (so that a false indication isn't so d*mn annoying).

There isn't any functional "problem" with just unplugging the warning light ECUs on a TR (i.e., there's no intelligent connection between the warning light system and the engine management systems), but you'll have no system to warn you of a cat over-temp condition (other than your own ability to detect that a bank is down from the running behavior or to note that the rear coachwork is on fire ;)). People have argued that the stock overtemp system is so unreliable that it's virtual worthless, but I think it's better than nothing (and the value of the car is diminished by the same $ cost to fix it so better to fix -- JMO).

The dealer picked up the cost on the one ECU at the time of purchase, as well as my cost above $6500 on the engine out plus water pump 30 K. I paid a bit too much for the car (although it is a beautiful example per everyone who has seen it, so who knows what too much is?) and they were pretty helpful. Now it's a thousand miles later or so, and mine to deal with : - )
