Getting ready to put my ehasut back together. Home brew Cat bypass being welded by a friend - will post details as they are available. I also want to replace my gaskets/donuts from the cat to the muffler, etc. Is there a locally available version of these? I recall someone (carguy?) bought some at a local parts store. The exhaust donuts seem to be about 70 mm. The domestic 2.5 and 3.0 don't work. Anyone else have any thoughts? If not, I will order them from Ricambi, but I am pretty darn sure someone here found an alternative. Anyone? Thanx, Bo
Sometimes, when I need an odd part like this I take the old one to the local Mercedes parts counter and ask them to match it up. The one near me is part of a dealer that also sells a lot of different imports as well, like Audi/Toyoto/Honda, and the parts/service area is ... well the first time I walked in, it made me wonder if Imperial Ceasar was anywhere nearby. Upscale, to say the least, but a nice bunch of guys. - Thats how I got the copper washers for my TR fuel lines. What are the donuts made of anyway? I'm going to check my precats soon.
Searching the net shows that perhaps a volvo 83-86 gasket would work, it is 70 mm. Anyone with direct experience?
Hmmm... I did a search, and see that folks have had little luck finding these... Many folks quote 40$ prices? Seems that Ricambi has them for 13$ (?154985) Eurospares for 1.50 pounds...or about 3$ Is that right???
Addendum... I just ordered from Daniel... $15 isn't too bad. 40$ a piece and I would have to look harder .
Bill, I need the ones that go from the cat to the muffler, and from the precat to the cat. They are 70 mm. I tried the domestic stuff, and it comes in 2.5 and 3.0 inches. Niether one seemed to fit. When you say small block chevy...what size are those? Part number? Are you talking about the ones from the headers to the precats??? Any help appreciated... As an update on the testpipes (for track use only, etc), the fabrication is done. I should be getting them in 2 days or so... Used 3 inch header extensions (18 inches) from jegs (50$ for 2). And 3 inch header reducers with o2 flange (25$ for 2). Cut both to lenght, did a circumferential weld. VIOLA, 75$ plus labor. Downsides.... 1) Not stainless... I wasn't sure my welder would work with stainless 2) Bolt holes off by 2-3 mm, need to be widened Pics to come...likely after this weekend...
Personally, I've never had much luck getting any real help with special stuff from my local chain auto parts stores (NAPA, AutoZone, Checker, etc.) - but here's a prior jpeg from someone indicating that this NAPA part F17250 is an equivalent for the large TR donut. If they are in good enough shape/age, I tend to reuse, if possible -- to d*mn hard getting them off the side that fits into the ID . Image Unavailable, Please Login
Greeeaaat Price!!!!!!!!!!!!Can't wait to see the pics and your feedback on the glorious sound! Before and after sound clip would be cool.
Hey thanks! I have already bought the ones from Daniel, and will keep those. But, I am sure I will need more in the future. I am shocked that someone found a generic part - I looked for 4 days, and searched the net, etc. Just goes to show that generic parts exist... Someone should start a Sticky with generic parts for the testarossa..
I posted that pix months ago.... I have been using that part now for over 1 year and 6000 miles with no ill effects............It is the gasket used on a chevy 283 engine header..............$2-6 dollars at any parts store. Kerry
I just finished this job on my 91 TR .I posted how I did it in the Indiana section.I used GM gaskets from Bumper to Bumper $3 per.Let me know if you need help.Bryan
