Does anyone have or know how to get a USED fusebox for an 87 testarossa part #129108 New ones are extremely expensive

Amazingly the price of this item was jacked up by Ferrari in the past few weeks. The last one we sold was $2100 and that was in September. LIST price from FNA is now over $5500. To say that I am flabbergasted over this 150% price increase is an understatement. To make matters worse, the "new" ones are still the same as the "old" ones - ie prone to failure I remember Rifledriver's old signature - seems fitting... PS. Welcome to the club - I'm sorry the price of membership is so high.
$5100?! Glad I replaced mine earlier this summer for something like $1800. And to think I thought that was too pricey... I left my old burned out one at Steve Harris Imports (http://ferrarisales.com). You might try checking with them to see if they still have it and if it's salvageable.
There are a couple of places that have Ferrari Wrecks including http://www.ferrariservice.com/ for $5,100, I would look at that fuse box and see if anything could be done to salvage it. Good Luck, Mark
I would think you could hunt down an old school computer repair guy and pay him some cash to rebuild the board. $5000...ouch.
Good day All, Check out the Mondial Fuse Block Solution in the following thread... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=163273 Since Clive has made one for the Mondial, I do not see why he could not make one for the TR. If he cannot or does not have the time, I may look at doing this project sometime in the New Year. Cheers, Sam
The two main issues with the TR fuse box/mother board is with the fuel pump and cooling fan circuits. If you bypass these from the mother board and the connectors, everything else in there is usually okay. That's what I did with mine, it took some time but only cost a few dollars....
There were a bunch of posts about this earlier this year. If someone wants to donate a dead one to me I will tear it apart and have the four or five mylar layers made. I discovered that the mylar melts when I was trying to tear mine apart. And I didn't want to distroy mine in the process since it was functional and easily repaired. Send me an PM with your email address and I will send some of the jpegs I took of the repairs to mine.....Very easy to do and since the board is enclosed in a case, invisible (assuming you haven't had a fire where everything was distroyed). As far as I can determine, the failure mechanism is poor connector contact pressure causes the pin to melt which causes the solder to re-flow which can short circuits out! And with as many relays and fuses and a lack of circuitboard surface area, I'm guessing you can't carry 20+ amps in a board trace 1mm wide. $5100 Yikes! Jeff Pintler 89 348tb, 86TR
Dear Ferraristi, I don't have a problem with the fusebox on my 91 TR....but I know it's only a matter of time. Since I use my TR as a daily driver, I too would like a solution. I was wondering, what if we treated the fusebox like a computer motherboard and tried to cool the board. I was thinking of adding small heatsinks to the metal relay cans with that special conductive glue. This is the same stuff when glueing a heatsink to a computer chip...think old-school celeron over-clocking. With heat sinks in place, a 12v computer fan to blow accross the the board. What would be a good place to find a "switched" circuit to add the fan to? The fusebox is covered by the trunk access panel which opens it to the cabin. When you pull the box out to get to the tachometric relay, you can see the pedals and floormat. So...air can be drawn from the cabin and blown accross to the cabin. ( no ducting needed) Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Shamile Freeze....Miami Vice !
Cooling would seem like a good idea but the failure mechanism I have seen is the contact pressure in the connectors that tie the board to the chasis. Not the relays over heating. Also, the board is inside a black plastic case and once you remove all the fuses and relays, remove the screws holding the panel in back, the board pops out in your hand. Everyone should inspect the plastic connectors along the bottom and sides of the board that tie into the chasis harness, looking for brown dis-colored female pins. There are 4-6 circuits that over heat. When the pin (on the board) overheats, it reflows the solder making a cold joint which then causes the mylar to melt and even possibly cause an adjacent mylar sheet to short and a fire. Maybe also a good reason not to have a fan blowing on the area! Once you find a bad female pin in the connector, you can slide it out of the white plastic carrier, gently squeeze the fingers together, add a little contact paste, then inspect the corresponding male pin on the board. I resoldered the cold joint on the board and added 18ga. teflon wire between the relay terminal and the male pin. This stuff is easy to do guys and it takes about two minutes to learn how to solder. And I can't do anything better until I get my hands on a dead board. Five thousand, WOW! Jeff Pintler 89 348tb, 86TR
I'd like to know the base price itself. Hell, this is an older circuit design and should be around a couple hundred bucks. Were it for a computer motherboard then it would be about that, and its nowhere near that complicated. Come to think about it, I hope Ferrari never gets into the PC business - The cd drive alone would be about a quarter million bucks.
Yes, i heard last year about $1,000.00 this year i heard they went up to about 1,800.00......but 5 grand, thats murder in the first degree.
If you are looking for a great deal on the Testarossa fuse\ relay boxes, give Bill a call at GT Car Parts in Phoenix,Arizona (623) 780-2200.He is selling these boxes for under $1,000.00 plus your core. The Kevlar boards made by Ferrari are removed and replaced with heavy duty 3 ounce copper on fiberglass boards. At the moment I believe he has about three in stock. In about a month, the fuse\ relay boxes for the Mondials will also be available .
