Hello I’d consider buying a set of hyperflow cats for my testarossa, I have test pipes and tubi precats and along my Capristo level 3 the sound is amazing, but the gas smell is just a bit too much and I don’t want to install back the OEM cats and muffle the sound too much. If so can get a good pre owned pair of hyperflows (any brand) at a good price I will entertain the possibility of installing them. If you have a pair of main cats laying around please contact me
    Thanks

I meant any high flows (hyperflows or any brand)
Not sure the number of cell counts on OEM cats but my guess is at least 400 as High flow cats are advertised at 200-300

If you are getting smell with that set up it is a tuning issue, not a cat issue. A properly tuned TR can very nearly pass California smog with no cats.

Brian I didn’t know that, I had the impression any car without any catalytic converters would have some gas smell issue. I am taking my car to install a speed sensor next week and I will ask my mechanic to look into the tuning. Any specific parameters (ie A/F ratio, HC and CO) I should aim for??
I believe the manual states CO of 0.7 ± 0.2 and HC of < 300 ppm.

Factory amended that but never officially for smog certification reasons.

In good tune at 1.25% CO measured before the cats and with O2s disconnected. It should have 5% or less O2, 15% or more CO2, 175 PPM or less HC, preferably under 150 PPM. Important to check it when O2s are reconnected. CO should go down to about .6-.7, HC should go down and not up. All measured at 1000-1200 RPM.

If those numbers are not met, something is wrong. This is an area where correct cam timing makes a very big difference.

Those would be the perfect numbers to “pass smog” even without cats or the perfect numbers for driving while keeping the gas smell as low as possible?, I wouldn’t mind having a bit of smell if that means having the car running perfectly.

And what makes you think a dirty car spewing unburned fuel out the tail pipe makes more power?

Not saying that but my uneducated guess is that a car that could pass smog in CA without any cats would be more leaner than optimal. But thank you very much for your tips, I will ask my mechanic to aim exactly to those numbers.

Too lean and it lean misses sending unburned gas and oxygen out the tail pipe. Too rich and it sends unburned gas out the tail pipe. Lean makes power right up until it is so lean it melts pistons.

You are still living in 1932.

Regardless of the tune I am still considering some high flow used cats (main only no precats) preferable hyper flows if somebody has a pair laying around

California has a visual inspection so with no cats you would fail though
