Im puzzled. That is half the beauty of a TR, is when you open the lid to see the 12 cylinder engine. My advice is, if you want an 8 cylinder in any car, it is always cheaper to buy the car with your 8 cylinder of choice, already installed by the factory.

DERSONO...perhaps your thinking of a 12 cylinder being dropped in where a V8 used to be? That has been done a few times. But I have never heard of a Ferrari V12 being yanked out, and a Ferrari V8 put in it's place.

Now for Jaguars....people have swapped out the Jag straight 6 and the Jag V12 for a Chevy V8....resulting in a more dependable car.

There's a current project thread here to install a gas turbine in a TR.

Heck, dump a front wheel drive Torino v8 in there and feel the power! Hear the rumble!
All that and an automatic too...
    Life is sweet.

I can tell you that pretty much nothing else WILL fit. Consider the height of the rear fenders off the ground, take away ground clearance and your left with about 26"

The stock gearbox is about 8-10" tall, engine not much higher other than the intakes.

I don't think any other engine, ferrari or otherwise might fit.

The turbine is/was certainly a challenge.

How about 2 Porsche engines one behind the other? That should fit AND be a challenge

For testarossa owners, perhaps a small increase in the value of non-converted testarossas.

Just on the outside chance that this insanity does proceed, what exactly were you going to do with the old engine?

BTW, that flat 12 is 5 litres, a Ferrari V8 anywhere near that big would have to be the latest 430 and would be IMHO worth far more than the car. (before or after).

You may have mistaken a Fiero based replica with a V8 conversion. The Fieros only came with fours or sixes and later converted to V8's. These are mounted transverse versus the longitudinal as found in the TR
