    Hello again everyone:

I got this info from one of the autosites I frequently visit daily (Jalopnik.com) that AutoExpress has some info that the Testarossa name might be used for the Maranello replacement (F600). What do you guys think about this? Personally, I am not in favor of this. For me, the Testarossa name evokes visions of a sexy and radical-looking mid-engined automobile - which the 80s version was - not a front engined GT which the Maranello is and what its replacement, the F600, is also supposed to be. If they want to revive the Testarossa name, let it be for a radical sexy mid-engined V12 that is a current interpretation of that 80s icon. Ahh, one can only dream...

    Cheers,
    Andy

Testarossa originated in 50s with those 250TR and 500TR not in the 80s.

The early race cars are called Testa Rossa, the '80s supercars Testarossa.

I think Ferrari should keep the 575 replacment, but also add a mid-engine V12 with the Testarossa name to their lineup.

Which neither the Testa Rossa nor Testarossa had. It was only the cam/valve covers that were painted red, not the heads themselves.

Seems too early to reuse the name to me. Some automobile names are used endlessly, Buick Regal being an example. As for the name being used on a completely different vehicle, think back to the Ford pick-up called the Explorer. Reusing names, or differentiating vehicles simply by using a numerical system always lacked imagination in my opinion. How much effort is involved in calling a car a 308, 328, 348, 360, 550, F40, F50? Mercedes of course is the leading abuser of numerical model names.

To me, Testa Rossa refers to the valve heads that were painted red on the engines of 1950's race cars.

Testarossa refers to the supercar that Crocket and Tubbs drove in Miami in the 80's.

So, a Testa Rossa should have been called a Valvola Lastra Protettiva Rossa which is Italian for red valve cover. :)

I think its terrible how american mfg's reuse old names. Have you seen a new Nova, or Malibu? They are aberrations. The Monte Carlo is kind of like the original. Lee Iacocca is turning over in his grave. Is he dead yet?

Hey, it's only packaging. . . wasn't the old man suspicious of the mid-engined design until the 250LM / Dino?
