Testarossa on eBay with a "buy it now" for $12,000:- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-Ferrari-Testarossa_W0QQitemZ4567412800QQcategoryZ6212QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Here's what I sent to him, "I can offer you $4000.00 pluss my 14 x 70 trailer (it is in a nice park!). I wants this thing!!"
The seller posted a reply to a question on eBay that someone else is using his eBay account! Not surprise.
I believe you have to contact him directly to become "eligible" for his private auction. He then tells you the car is really 65k (if you are willing to buy it at that or your agreed price). You then hit the buy it now option and he only has to pay ebay the fees based on a car that appears to have sold for 12k. I'm pretty sure it works like that. Tells you off the bat that you are dealing with a person that might not have a great amount of integrity. If he is not going to be honest with ebay, how do you know he is going to be honest with you about the car?
I'd get whatever permission you need from him to bid, "buy it now" at the $12k price, and then demand the car for $12k. Sounds like a contract at $12k to me.
Read the ask the seller a question comment: The car is not his for sale thus the "alternate" email. I too will give you a great deal on a Ferrari I dont own, cash up front of course....
Yeah LG - wouldn't work in this case. Only for a real guy with a real car who'se trying to save listing fees. Of course, I'm still waiting to get the $10.50 308 engine rebuild I bought on ebay last year.
got burned too many times esp. on Ferrari stuff and I have to say in my expereince...from offshore US mostly (not really any particular part of the world either!).. I am very, very careful with ebay, and then only hold my breath when I order.
A TOTAL scam. An email I received from the "owner" says he is in Germany and could not register the car. Sound familiar? Here is the email I received..... "From: brunetelul123 @yahoo.com <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, August 09, 2005 3:39 AM To: Paul Stahl Subject: Re: Ferrari Hi, I am glad to hear that you are interested about my car.The car is in perfect conditions without any scratches or other mechanical problems.I live in Germany. The car has a Clear Title wich you will receive it with the car.It can be registered into your name. Also the car will arrive with all the documentations required for registration.I will ship the car via LUFTHANSA AIRPLANE CARGO Service and I will pay the shipping costs.I bought this car from US but when i tried to register the car in my country they said that i can't register a car that has US emissions.I sell it so cheap because i can't find a buyer in my country.I want to sell it in US because the car is still registered there.I hope you understand this situation.I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate. This deal will happen through EBAY. So if you really want it please give me an email as soon as possible. Thank you!" My reply was as follows................ "From: Paul Stahl Date: Wednesday, August 10, 2005 9:46 PM To: brunetelul123 @yahoo.com <[email protected]> Subject: Re: Ferrari I do understand your situation. I have a very good friend living in Germany (Manheim) and he is willing to travel to wherever the car is to see it. If it is in as good a condition as you say I can send the money soon. Just let me know where and when he can look at the car. Paul" I fully expect him to say that there is some "good reason" why my friend cannot see the car, it is still in customs, impounded somewhere, in secure storage, whatever. I will post any reply I receive. Paul
Hey, he "took the opportunity to make sure you understand that the deal is legitimate". Good enough in my book. Cut the guy some slack and send him the money. You don't want to miss this deal. That is a STEAL of a price. Give me his address so I can send him money before anyone else. I want this car bad. Let me know if you aren't going to move on it!! ;-)
So your saying a Supra is for sale at almost half a TR. Well I guess that makes sense. I think they generically price these things at $1000 / cylinder. BT
This is incorrect. Ebay charges a flat fee listing and selling for automobiles. Whether the car sold for 5k or 50k it would be $25 to list and $25 to sell. But you are right about this type of scam on non-vehicle sales....it is a way to keep down the Ebay fees...which personally...I could care less if someone keeps their ebay fees down...after Ebay raised their rates like 6 months or a year ago, I lost a lot of respect for them... Another way to get Ebay fees down (I'm suprised this one isn't used more often) Offer a $500 item for Buy It Now - $10...then charge $490 in shipping... Ebay doesn't not charge fees on shipping. I'm sure doing this is fraud so take this tidbit of info for what it is.....info...
