BaT is like a religion or cult, I do not understand why people pay so much more for cars there when there are just as good or better ones elsewhere for a heck of a lot cheaper

One thing I have noticed on most of the cars coming up for sale is that they are all due for the major service. Mine was included in that. I prefer it this way now as I like to be the one to decide what I want to repair while I’m in there. The down side is the sellers need to make sure to account for this in there price. In my case I had to replace the tires and do the brakes as well. I suspect most of these cars will need additional things done in addition to the major. You better budget for 20k just to be safe. And oh yeah, don’t forget the diff. I haven’t seen any of the cars for sale with the diff upgrade. That’s going to be a must repair. My point is most of the cars will need quite a bit of maintenance before you can start driving them regularly. I’ve realized how valuable this perspective is when pricing and buying one of these cars.

And when that video was made (late 90s early 2000s) the TR was still in its dark period of everybody dumping on it, calling it "too 80s looking" "Slow" "Too heavy" "small wheels" "ugly" "vulgar" etc. The Countach received the same treatment back then as well. That dark period was about 20 years long despite the reactions in that video.

I enjoy following auctions on BaT. Call it car porn if you like.

Now, if I was a bidder, I would arrange a PPI in the 7 days cars are normally listed. Most sellers are more than willing to accomodate a PPI, just like any normal in-person purchase.

Come to think of it I think you have a better opportunity to have a PPI done on a BaT car than on one listed at any of the major auction houses.

True ! Doug Demuro just launched cars and bids! Not sure how this competes with BAT but it’s pretty much the same!

Weird that they include two model years of the 512tr, it will be great if they didn’t mix both models.

This may be a good buy. I did not read the listing and do not know if it has recently been serviced, # of p.o.'s, service history, and cosmetics.

The euro cars are a little faster. True, at this point it really does not matter.

    The car needs a hug.

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1987-ferrari-testarossa-14-2/

his 1987 Ferrari Testarossa is a European-spec example that was imported from the Netherlands to Canada in 2003. It has since resided in Alberta and British Columbia, and was acquired for the selling dealer’s collection in 2018. Finished in Rosso Corsa over black leather, the car shows 76k kilometers (~47k miles) and is powered by a 4.9-liter flat-12 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. A $13k engine-out service was performed in 2015 and included replacement of the timing belts, camshaft seals, front crankshaft seal, and spark plugs. The car was previously auctioned on BaT in January 2020 by the same seller, though the sale was not completed due to a mechanical issue that has since been remedied, as outlined below. This Testarossa is now offered in North Vancouver with a clean Carfax report, service records, owner’s manuals, and British Columbia registration.

In Europe we had no precats and some slight changes which made the car 10hp more powerful; the biggest difference is with the early models 85-86 which came decatted (cat and precats back home)

Hey guys - I curate the Markets above. We've seen some late production TR's (1991) getting registered in 1992 which is why you'll see the range from 1984 to 1992. We have the 512 TR starting in 1991 to 1996 (model years) and the 512 M from 94' to 96'. If you see any misplaced cars, let me know and we'll put them in the right place. Thanks!

Only issue I have related to market watcher databases and price quoting types is they typically neglect to note/highlight the “auction buyer premiums” as part of the “Sold For” quote. Many casual observers fail to factor in that aspect as actual cost which can 5-10% of the car when rattling off what a car is Sold for.

Additionally, since many purchases are typically not local you have to factor in transport ($500-1.5k+) and potentially inspection ($500+) costs which all these factors (premium, transport, inspection) total up to be a significant amount just to get cars like this to your garage.
