It’s not a question of whether I “believe” you. It’s a question of what cars are actually selling for. I’m not sure where your data comes from. Are those cars you bought and/sold? In the last year? You say you’ve owned and sold three in the last six years, but what something sold for six or even two years ago is entirely irrelevant to what it is worth in today’s market. There are lots of cars (or houses or stocks or anything else of value) that sold for a lot less a year or two ago than they are worth today, let alone five or six years ago.

I’ve been watching the Testarossa market closely for about two years now. That means looking at just about every car listed for sale or at a major auction in the USA. The days when clear, well-cared-for Testarossa could he bought for well under $100k are gone. You could argue that this particular example sold at the high end of the market for a car with its mileage considering the time since the last major service, but there are absolutely no comps out there that suggest it was overvalued by $30-35,000. Instead, the sale price just confirms the clear trend line of the last five years — prices are climbing on Testarossas. And that makes perfect sense considering their age. Enthusiast cars mostly depreciate for generally 20-30 years, plateau, and then begin appreciating. They will continue to appreciate in value as the generation that admired them when they were new gains time and wealth. Eventually, that generation begins divesting as it gets older and priorities change, and at that point values will stagnate and even decline. We are seeing that now with the muscle cars of the 60s and early 70s. Before that it was tri-five Chevy’s and other desirable dare of the 50s. We are currently at the point, however, where 80s and even 90s vintage cars are climbing rapidly in value. That includes the Testarossa, 355/360 series cars, the Lamborghini Countach and Diablo, BMW 850, Toyota Supra TT, etc.

Sure, I may be wrong in predicting that Testarossa values are going to continue to climb for the next decade or so, but I’m definitely not wrong that they have been climbing steadily for the last five years. And since I have mine, I don’t really have to worry about it. But for anyone who wants one and doesn’t yet have one, history and recent sales data strongly suggest that waiting will only result in them getting more expensive.

Those are sold on bat for the past year and thats the point that car was well sold, not well bought. I
Of course the prices have changed, 6 years ago my first one was 100k for 25k miles and major done at ferrari of algar, my most recent one was 2021 110k-8k miles major to be done resold last year for 145k
Market is overall up but there are still plenty of good cars in the 100/110k which have 20/30k miles and make that car with 95 k miles a top max bid of 80. Whoever bid that, well good for them , but just browsing on bat and hammer price shows it was all the money for the seller and the buyer overpaid in todays market. There were no actions to fight the bid in the last minutes too.

Moldy, beat up one sold for about 100k, bad head gasket funny paint one sold for 100k.

$100k for a 100k miles car is a good sell but not by 30-35k as you claim.

Yes and the reality is that someone paid that price for that vehicle.
I know you dont share my views that is totally fine and i respect that, that car sold and thats the price it sold for.
Vin ? Place of sale of the bad head gasket one ? I dont see any on BAT aside https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1988-ferrari-testarossa-20/ 4 years ago which is likely not the same car ?

It's on there. That and the moldy one are probably the worst.
To top it off, a dealer bought the silver one.

yea, I'd use the 94k mile one as an honest car, everyone can form their own opinion from there.

Jumping into the conversation here about values as I have always loved the TR and timing to get one might be getting right. While I also follow BAT sales, there are also a number of used TRs at dealers across the country ranging from $140k to over $200K. And with sales from other auction houses, some cars have certainly sold at what I would call corrected pricing. I am hoping one could get into a nice 20k or less mile car right in the $120K-$130K with a fresh service. Super low mileage cars will certainly carry a premium but hoping the correction continues a little longer. Are my expectations realistic? I currently have a 550 Maranello and have seen those values jump but seeing a bit of softness there as well.

You are more than correct... Check the listing they SIT and dont sale. U are bound to find what u want :)
Most are dealer consigned so its also how much the owner is willing to accept current market VS his expectations (or her)

Agreed. There is one local to me on consignment, red/tan with approx. 24K miles with a recent service for $150K but hasn’t moved in price in 4 months. It may need some clutch work as it was noted on the maintenance docs I looked at but overall looks like a nice car. So just continuing to watch the market as I would prefer a private party vehicle as we don’t pay sales tax on private party sales in AZ. And that’s a nice chunk in savings depending on a final sales price.
