i'll throw in a curve ball here.

If what you are saying is correct, which as a Testa owner i know it is, then the price drops should be evident all over the world including the UK.

Not necessarily. Supply and demand rules, even for LH cars.
There are a bunch here in the States. More than the market can support.
The styling is dated and newer models are more appealing hence the low prices here.

Not that many RH drive TRs around hence more desirability in your part of the world.
Even fewer in places like Australia so even more expensive to import a RH drive car there.

I imagine a TR brings an even better price in Japan.

Ferrari built the TR for the American market. I gurantee there are far more hear than in Australia or the UK. Supply and demand generally do wonders for pricing. So, high supply and low demand = low prices. I thought 308s went for 60K in Australia which is 2X here in US.

$5.00 a gallon gasoline is going to kill the "weekend car" market. Unless its a car that gets decent miles a gallon ( gee, like the 3.2L Porsche 911) many cars are going to be hurt by the sudden jump in fuel prices in the USA. Middle America with its muscle cars are going to suffer the most. I like my old Trans Am that I have, but not enough to pay $5.00 a gallon to drive it.

i would expect TR and other exotics that are not bluechip to take another small downturn if things keep going the way they are.

If prices for TR's so so much more in Japan, Australia & europe...what stops us from shipping them over seas to sell them? Customs fees??

Actually, 5.00 a gallon gasoline is going to kill my daily driving of 300 to 400 miles per week in my BMW.
A far as the TR goes, BECAUSE it is a weekend car and NOT driven everyday, I could care less about the price of fuel.
Also, a day drive in the TR at 5.00 a gallon is still 50% less than what it would cost to run a BOAT for a day.
    It's all relative................................

Not sure about Japan but I thought I read that a LH drive TR cannot be licensed for the road in Australia. Robert Hayden? Tell us.
Fees of all kinds plus shipping adds a hefty amount to the cost as well.

Rob is busy working on his TR..See the Australian Section.

He worked all last night preparing for the Concorse and it was rained out.
    he decided not to go.

LHD cars can only be registered here when they reach 30 years of age.

The import duties and taxes are huge and they compound on each other.

    10% duty
    10% Goods and Services Tax
33% luxury car tax over $60K
then they need to be complied to local laws. Say another $5K
Then 4% Stamp Duty and $600 registration (road tax)

Then there is the supply and demand issue.
A RHD testarossa of which i was told only 480 odd produced should always be worth more than a LHD.

Then the other issue is that most Australian's will not have the balls to import a vehicle and be subject to the nasty surprises.

An Australian car with a "real" documented service history will always be the choice of the average Australian.

It's only nut cases like me and Rob that import cars and then get all the surprises.

Cars are generally much better maintained and looked after in Australia compared to other countries. Only because we pay so much more for them here. So spending $20K on a TR does not hurt us as much when the car is worth $150K

agree. Why more people dont just live closer to work and save for a getaway place is beyond me. I have lived 4 miles from my job for the last 11 years. gas prices dont bother me per se, but they sure make food, shipping and everything else skyrocket too.

I am hoping to buy some land to play on. I may just get out of cars permanently. NFA Guns are way cheaper. :)

    people with boats are nuts.

    Different strokes i guess.

Be interesting to see what the markets do in the next few weeks.

I would not try and sell a Hummer at the moment. Remember 2 years ago they were free if you filled up the tank. Agree weekend toys probably are not affected by gas prices.

The town where I WORK is a **** Hole and the gangs and crime are rampant.
The town were I LIVE is 30 miles away, 30 minutes, door to door.
The advantage is more land for less money.
The High School Footballers take great delight in pounding the crap out of the gang-bangers.
Room for a big shop, lots of cars and a big yard.
The neighbors are spread out further, nobody looking over my shoulder.
I can target practice in my back yard legally.
    It's my sanctuary.
I am at the base of the Cascade Mountain Range and some of the best driving roads around.
My only connection to the grid is electricity with generator backup.

When I retire I'll probably move further out to a bigger place so I can build and fly a Kit Fox or Rans. http://www.kitfoxaircraft.com/s7supersport.htm http://www.rans.com/_RTF/S-7LSmain.htm

I cannot confirm the 480 odd RHD testarossa's.
However when i purchased mine 3-4 years ago in the UK and shipped to Australia, most advertisements on autotrader.co.uk stated "one of only 484 RHD TR built".

My thinking exactly, people will sell the daily driver and get a 4 cyl and the weekend car will be a little more "fun" than the previous daily driver. I drive 65 miles each way to work all interstate I have a 4cyl Accord for a daily driver and the TR for the weekend car

ok, ya got me, that sounds better than what I am trying to achieve now! But most people "could" live closer to work, but they do not, and all the guys at work complain about the drive, traffic, fuel, ect. i have 1 stop sign, and 1 traffic light. The 6 sets of railroad tracks are an issue though! :)

i think good cars will always be sought after and worth "more". But the fact is, the TR is getting old, and is still expensive to maintain unless you have a lift at home, and can do the work. Most people with money just want to write a check and drive. That kills the value of the car in the market. Add the self destructing diff / transaxle, and you have guys wanting to spend the cash on a different car with less risk.

i like the TR, but I wont buy one. too much risk versus the value of the car, same with the 308s people think are work $35k. Keep them, Ill buy something else!

$ 5,00 per gallon is killing ? Well..... make up your mind fast then ....

In Europe we pay allmost $ 8,00 per gallon.... every day again .... (1 litre = € 1,60 now !).

But for the weekend: what the hack... let's drive our TR's !!!

And a good sign: TR prices are NOT sinking here now anymore...
