I have a 1987 USA Testarossa. I need to remove the entire thermostat housing (Circled in GREEN) to service the gasket where the lower pipe (item #39) mates with the thermostat housing. (Circled in RED)

I have drained the coolant, removed the upper hose from the engine to the thermostat housing, removed the two bolts attaching the housing to the lower pipe transition piece (item#39), and loosened all hose clamps on the upper housing.

What is the trick to free the thermostat housing from the lower pipe attachment point? It seems stuck.

    Thanks,
    Rich

So, what was it? Just stuck and a little persuasion broke it free?

Yes, the gasket was holding the thermostat housing to the lower tube. Also having the upper tubing clamps in place would not allow the thermostat housing to rotate up.

Unbolting the upper tubing clamps and gas tank vent tubing clamps gave the room for the thermostat housing to rotate up and be removed from the upper tubing hoses.
