I have a black Testarossa that unfortunately suffered several paint burns while having a paint correction and ceramic coating done a couple years ago. I've lived with it but I need to repaint the car. I'm not concerned about the value of a repainted car over a factory finish, I just want the car to look new.

My plan was to send the car to Bradan on Long Island but they don't do full resprays anymore, just collision work.

Who is the best for painting these cars?

    Thanks in advance.

Great paint is not such a rare skill that you have to go from Georgia to New York and pay really absurd money.

I know of 2 restoration shops out in the sticks who found local painters that put cars in wins at Pebble.

In my experience this is a terrible place to get references. Ask around locally.

Better still. Go to local car events and ask around. In many cases he'll be able to see their work. Find great looking cars and ask who painted it.

I am also considering having my TR sprayed in the Netherlands.
Out of curiosity, how much does respraying a TR cost for you?
    in the Netherlands approximately €15,000

From the information I'm getting from calling around to a few high end places, to do a proper respray on a Testarossa is 30-35k. That includes disassembly, fixing any dings or imperfections, base coat/clear coat paint and obviously reassembly.

Sounds like a "ferrai tax" to me. Painting a car is not so shockingly "just painting a car" no difference than painting any other new or classic car (Porsche, Corvette, or Alfa) the cost is in the amount of time the shop spends to make it look right based on customer expectations with polishing and level of detail. The same team doing custom muscle car paint jobs for half the price is the same team spraying and polishing whatever car comes into a shop and the fundamentals are no different (sanding, spraying, polishing, etc)....just like guys who are paying $1k for an oil change think they're getting something special. Some people just don't know any better and can be easily up sold.

$30-35k+ on a TR with disassembly etc is correct if you want a truly excellent job.

I doubt $15k for a muscle car would get something very special.

Yes, that is removing the glass, painting all the jams, the black lower sills and front spoiler.

Disassembly and reassembly vastly more expensive on the TR.

Do you have any idea what it takes to R&R the back window? I do. Have done it several times only because I can no longer find a glass company who will do it for any price. And that is just the start. Please lets not say stupid things like its no different than a Honda. That starts and stops with the guy holding the spray gun.

And getting it out in 1 piece probably will not happen so just add $3000 for a new one. Windshield is nearly as risky based on how they are glued in.

And it is done with sharp cutting tools from the inside so the level of care required around all the leather is extreme.......or remove all the leather.

Sorry, its just not the same as doing a Camero.

Ferrari's are MUCH more labor intensive to paint in just about every step compared to a more modern or higher production volume car. Unless you have done it you will never understand how much time it takes; the time gets eaten away EVERYWHERE. That said there is rarely any reason to ship a car cross country to get it painted. I have consistently been able to find excellent paint shops in any city I have found. It just takes some asking around and a diligent approach to choose a reputable place.

I believe the TR was originally painted single stage paint.

Paint quality is very subjective...what's "nice" to some folks certainly won't fly at a concours event. About 25 years ago I restored a 63 Corvette Coupe, the car was completely disassembled - and I took the body to a painter that was a true artist. The color was Sebring Silver and I wanted a first class job. It cost me $14k back then. When he was done, the body was die-straight and paint looked wet...it was awesome and I was very happy with it. A truly great paint job is not cheap, the amount of prep work is significant too.
