You have a clutch dragging problem then. On all TR family, even reverse has a synchro so you'll get no crunching in reverse, but if it's baulky then a clutch problem exists. Could be spigot bearing, clutch, master cyl, slave cyl, rusty flywheel etc etc etc.....
Phil is correct about potential clutch problems, but since you are new to the car TRs are famous for baulky 1-2 shifts when cold. They are also sensitive to the type of trans oil you use, and the shifter adj is very sensitive as well. You should consider all of those.
Thanks guys - this is very helpful. I am thinking definately flywheel with rust is a high possiblity plus some of the other problems you've mentioned. - I'll post in next couple of weeks with what we did if my customer decides to let us explore it further. I think he wants to drive it for now and then bring it back. - FYI : - The fluid we used is Pennzoil Synthetic 75W-90. I may try to use another brand and weight but I have my doubts if we will get chance to explore it for now.
Okay...since nobody else has asked.....WHY WAS THIS CAR SITTING FOR 10 YEARS???? It drives me nuts that someone has had a wonderful car like a Testarossa just sitting in their garage for 10 years and has done nothing with it.
You should go to a car museum and see the stuff that just lays around..... to some a TRossa is a dream car, to others, it's just one of a collection that costs him $x every time he uses it. My 512BB was owned by a guy that bought it in the late 80's boom, never even saw it let alone drive it, and sold it 10 years later needing a refresh for 20% of what it cost him.
Wow....I guess I never thought people would do that as much as they must. If you do not mind me asking....could you please post more details about your car?? How could he have never seen the car or driven it for 10 years?? I assume it was a 0 mile car when you bought it.
autotechies fixed it for a customer for the soul purpose of selling it at a car auction. The car was seized in an FBI raid from some guy. The customer wanted to spend the minimum amount to get it running. Tell the rest of the story, autotechies.
