Is is possible to modify the seat on a Testarossa to give the driver more room? Such as lowering or moving it back? Thanks.
it is possible to lower the seat, but does take some serious work as it is already close to the floor plan. Moving to back is not a possibility; there's a little something in the way- the fuel tanks followed right away by the engine. The easiest solution might be to replace the seat with one that is thinner, maybe CF. Best Norm
Hey guys, any more info would be great, the seat thing is holding me back from purchacing a tr to put next to my 348
When I bought my nsx, I had to fly out to texas and drive back to NY. Drove most of the way back in socks.... My 348 would be tought to drive if not for driving shoes, but the testarossa is just to small, really sucks because I want one
Racing seats have less padding so they are lower & not as deep. That could work, Maybe a reclinable OMP or Sparco
Cram yourself in................who cares if its tight, its a TESTAROSSA for Gods sake..............buy a caddy if you want comfort. I am 6'3" and fit just fine, even have to move the seat up a tad, drive a Lotus Esprit if you want to know what tight is........
Wow - good attitude! You even moved the seat UP a little??? Mine has custom made Recaro seats installed right now - I think they cut down legroom about a half inch or more because of the thicker back construction. Cars with stock seats have a little more leg room for me, but I still want them all the way back at 6'0". I have the originals for the car, but I am keeping the Recaro's for now because they are so comfortable.
These date back to the original owner from the late 80s, as far as I know... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks, guys. The Norwood people told me they probably only cost the original purchaser about $4,000! They wanted me to sell them on EBay and put the originals back in, but I have come to like them. Of course, the electrical stuff only works on the lumbar, tilt, etc...the fore and aft is still manual. BTW, I did get rid of that nasty old fashioned cell phone holder. And the stupid 1" x 1.5" inside right hand side interior mirror!
today i went to the testarossa i want to buy to do a testdrive. i am 193cm and needed to slide my ass down on the chair till i was almost in laying position before i could fit my head under the roof. so it is absolutely not possible to drive it normal... you can not drive a racecar safely when your laying ... it is the biggest disappointment of my life to find out that i will never be able to drive the car that i have dreamed of my whole life. i worked hard to reach it and now its all for nothing :-( so can anyone please tell me if he allready succeeded in getting lower to the ground with any aftermarket race seats or another solution? i would so much appreciate a helpfull reaction.
Michael Jordan...........owned and drove a Testarossa.....He is 198cm, so there has to be a way to get a short guy like you behind the wheel!! 177cm ME
An easy modification is to remove the pad that you sit on and get rid of the rubber straps that support the pad. Then get a piece of thin aluminium (I used the stuff for roofing valleys 0.005 inch thick) and fold it over about a half an inch and use 1/8 inch pop rivits in the same holes for the metal hooks on the rubber straps. The aluminium supports the full length and width of the pad and flexes to follow the butt shape as you move i.e. make it flex instead of rigid. Another modification is to remove the headrests and bend the support rods to a more comfortable angle. There are some locking pins accessible by removing the back panel. Lastly, pull the seats out of the car and make sure the three toggles on the side of the seat function correctly and are set to the lowest setting. You will not believe how cheaply designed the mechansm and the hardware is. My seats have been in servce for six years. This ain't rocket science. Jeff Pintler 89 348tb, 86tr, 99 360 3-pedal
