I have a 1991 Testarossa, European version. I want to install a TUBI exhaust eventually, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it this year. For now, I'm considering removing the catalytic converters and installing pipes.
Does this work well? Do I need to use spacers to keep the lambda sensors from illuminating?
What do you think about this solution?
Do these pipes fit all Testarossa years, and are they different for the 512TR? I wouldn't want to buy ones that don't fit!

No (TRs don't have any diagostic Lambda monitoring system, they just have an over-temperature monitoring system).

What version TR? If it has precats, replacing the cats isn't the best. IMO, you should only consider 3 TR exhaust configurations:

    1. (Stock) precats and cats. Thermocouples go in exit end of precats and O2 sensors go in entrance side of cats.

    2. Precat bypass pipes and (stock) cats. Thermocouples go in exit end of cats and O2 sensors go in entrance side of cats.

    3. Precat bypass pipes and cat bypass pipes. Thermocouples not needed (but nice if the bypass pipes have a place to mount them to look tidy or just keep them plugged in and tie them up to the chassis somewhere) and O2 sensors go in entrance side of cats. But smelly and usually loud.

    JMO.

Just to clarify, where I previously wrote "stock", I meant stock, or stock-like, components (meaning an active catalytic structure inside) - not that only the F stock components are OK.

My car with no cats is about 1DB louder than stock. It needs to be parked side by side with a stock car to tell the difference.

That's why I wrote "usually loud" and not "loud" -- unlike you, most people who go catless also go (or have already changed to) to an aftermarket muffler.

If so, you already have Ferrari's precat bypass pipes, and not active precats (i.e., you are configuration #2 if you still have the cats). They were used on some of the later non-US version TRs that required cats but not precats. You can see them here in the TR SPC -- 57 and 58 are the precat bypass pipes while 23 and 24 are the active US precats:

That depends on your own definition of "better".

Those are not pre cats. Those are the factory pipes for cars not needing pre cats.
