Mel, This TR is now for sale in Australia and has been for some six months!!! The owner is asking "Stupid" money for it compared to other TR's for sale here in Oz. I understand that Elton John owned(s)lots of Ferrari's ....and several have made their way down under, including a 308 QV GTB in blue Here is the link: 1987 FERRARI TESTAROSSA Coupe Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au
Thanx for reply Kim (?)! You can always try .... Australian $$$'s I think ? ($189,000) how much is that in US $$ ? (indeed too much). Was this car ever seen on the road / events in U.K. or Down Under ?
Mel, At the moment 1 Australian $ is around $1.05 US..... I was told the car was recently imported to Australia??? At the moment the Ferrari market is "dead" for sales here in Australia and any TR is difficult to move....Going rate for TR's is somewhere between $100-120,000 $AUD for the best cars.... So I think this car will be for sale a long time"??? TR's were never "officialy" sold new here so all "our" TR's are ex-UK or Hong Kong as we are RHD! Here is link for another "interesting" TR for sale down under!! 1987 FERRARI TESTAROSSA Coupe Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au Cheers, Kim
That car attended the NSW concourse in 2011. It did not present particularly well, however it had only just been imported by I think the present owner. I have not seen this car since and would have to have under taken considerable work to elevate it's presentation to achieve this price. However prices for TR's in Australia have held well as they were not imported officially and there are few original RHD ones here. The top end TR's are moving quite well but generally not advertised.
Mike, I know..............nearly bought a blue one in Melbourne that used to belong to former FCA Prez. Geoff P. It went for around $90k I believe??? She who thinks she must be obeyed wanted a new kitchen, bathroom and other house renos...can you believe it???? Haven't seen or heard off a good Testicle Roaster changing hands in a while though? Kim
The story goes, the car was a gift from his record company - he drove it a bit, and then went up for auction with an older Bentley and a few jags he had. He was cleaning house so to speak. They all sold at auction. Classics.com - Elton John's Cars to be auctioned at Christie's
VERY interesting Big Red ... this auction took place a LONG time ago .... "auctioned at Christie's in London, UK, June 5th 2001. " And the price THEN was "only" GBP 50.000 ... and why is this price suddenly so high NOW ...?????
There is a 512TR previously owned by Sir Elton at a garage not too far from where I live. It has been for sale some time now. P
Interesting as most celebrity owned cars dont seem to bring a premium from anything I have ever heard. PDG
When was this? Geoff P. Was president of FCA in the 1990's; but his TR was imported in 1988, it's red and he still owns it today. My father was president from about 1986 to 1989, and he imported a blue TR in 1989. He passed away before the car landed and it stayed in the family until 1995 when I sold it to a car dealer in NSW for more than twice your figure. It's been in NSW ever since, so intrigued by your post ?
Scott, IIRC, The cars books indicated the first owner was Geoff P. and it was imported/delivered by Lance Dixon,Stephen Ellets name was the dealer signature!!! Car is blue, with blue leather interior. The car was up for sale at Shannons at the time, having been in Tasmania. I have heard Phil Hughes did work on the car before Xmas for the new owner..... Kim
Well, well, well..........it seems Geoff bought TWO Testarossa's at a time when there was a 5 year waiting list for them. You could literally double your money at that point in the market as well. That is the car that was with the late Leon Winter so I guess Geoff must have sold it to him. Very interesting.
